This may have been discussed before but I couldn't find anything useful with the search. If someone remembers a post with this info please let me know.

I'm having starting problems with the GF's XJ. Sometimes it will not start in Park only in Neutral. Doesn't do this all the time and there's no ryhme or reason as to why it does it. I've heard of other XJ's having the same problem but never heard an answer to the problem. Is there a switch or wire that could be stretched with the lift. It has about 7" of lift, 33's, and 4.10 gears w/ Detroits. I really don't think any mods to the drivetrain would cause this problem but possibly the lift pulled something outta wack. It does have the SYE, so the Tcase and tranny are in the stock location not lowered. This is not that big of deal because it still starts in neutral just fine, hell it's been doing this for almost 2 years and I just now am getting around to doing something, but we're thinking about selling the XJ and we don't want someone to test drive it and it not start. Any help with this will be very appreciated. Thanks

YES i also have this problem, its a switch on the side of the tranny, telling your engine when and when not to start...

Yours is fubar ;) :flipoff2: glad i could help ;)

Yeah, I kinda figured it was a switch but I was wondering if anyone has replaced it and what their results were. Is it just the switch or is something else causing the problem where even a new switch will do the same thing. I won't work to hard on this since I only drive it about 2 or 3 times a month and the GF doesn't really care either way(she's been starting it this way for 2 rys why change now) but if it's an easy fix I'll do it.

jeep"guru",

pull the switch and rebuild it.
Iv'e heard they cost more new from the dealer than a night with a top shelf hooker.
invest your money where it counts.

I removed mine and by-passed it.It'll start in any rear so ya gotta watch it,for a trailer rig it's not a problem but on a daily driver probably not a good idea.

Thanks Guys I'll figure something out this weekend.

XJweeble, read again, not the CPS. It wouldn't start and keep running with a bad CPS. Anyone who's owned enough 4.0's has figured that one out.

I don't think bypassing it is such a good idea with the GF as the primary driver everyday, already thought about that.

Sundowner, have you rebuilt the switch before? I refuse to go to the stealership so that might work. Any suggestions on what to watch for.
