FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Big plans for RCAA’s 2003 season

October 28, 2002-Riverton, UT: The Rock Crawlers Association of America ( RCAA) just came off of the biggest season ever in the history of competitive rock crawling. RCAA president Ranch Pratt contributes the phenomenal growth of this grass roots sport to hard work, and attention to detail from RCAA’s crewmembers, the many sponsors, and the vast support of the media.
In the past two years alone you can frequently find supportive media groups such as: newspapers, magazines, radio, online magazines, and even television covering RCAA events. The Goodyear/Skyjack-er Extreme Rock Crawling National Series has been covered by media outlets such as: Automobile Magazine, Four Wheeler, Off-Road, Four Wheel Drive & Sport Utility Magazine, Petersen’s 4Wheel & Off-Road, Jp Magazine, Car & Driver, Truck & SUV Performance, the widely read Auto Week Magazine, many on-line magazines, Washington Times newspaper, Plain Dealer newspaper in Cleveland, Salt Lake Tribune and the L.A Times,
RCAA events have also been seen on The Edge of Outdoors, The History Channel, NBC, and the very popular Junkyard Wars. Even televisions Outdoor Channel showcased the series. This media coverage as well as magazines from Canada, France, Mexico, and Venezuela have contributed tremendously to the growth of the sport across the world. RCAA has reported crowd numbers up to twenty thousand strong.
Looking ahead, Pratt announced various tentative rule changes for the 2003 season. This includes two separate classes: Modified Stock and Super Modified. According to the new rules the Modified Stock class utilizes OEM based vehicles with allowed upgrades and modifications as outlined in the new rulebook. Further, vehicles competing in the Modified Stock class may not compete in the Super Modified Class. The Super Modified class is for exotic buggies and highly modified stock vehicles. Those running this class cannot be scored with the modified stock class.
Variations between the two classes concern the hood, grill, fenders, tub/cab, hydraulic steering, and the suspension. Apart from the two classes the biggest rule changes would be a minimum weight limit of 2400 pounds and assessment of two points per obstacle once a spotter pulls on a strap. These rule changes are still subject to change. The final rules will be posted on RCAA’s web site by the 5th December. A copy of said rules will also be available via fax or email upon request. For more information about the tentative rules go to www.rockcrawler.org. or contact RCAA at 801-446-5337.

In other recent news, Pratt announced RCAA’s 2003 tentative event schedule.

2003 Event Schedule:
Date City
April 10-12 Reno, Nevada
May 22-24 TBA
July 10-12 Cedar City, Utah

Anybody got any info on the tentative rules for stock modified? Are they going to be like CalRocs?

I went to the website and they didn't have any tentative rules. But then again their website is about useless.

Rich, not your website.

But Ranch doesn't keep his site updated, doesn't always post results in any timely manner, no pics of events, doesn't even mention or have a link to Big Rock they guys that video all the events. I don't know from some reason I just expected more out of ARCA. JMO.

I know it takes time and money to do the website maintenance but right know ARCA seems to have all the bling bling sponsorship and if I was one of those sponsors I would want the ARCA website updated and pics of all the vehicles show casing my tires, etc. and all those decals that they are required to put on their vehicles showcased. There is never enough exposure.

I bought a membership in ARCA two years ago and charged it to my credit card and the billingh has yet to show up and they have never sent me a thing or acknowledge I joined.

So if they don't want my $$$:shaking: I'm just nobody anyway ;)

On the other hand they do provide events to attend and compete in and that's what the are really for. :D

Oh, by the way I know they are RCAA now, but I just don't think of them that way.

And one more thing. they still have a link on their opening page that says "Shop ARCA" how's that for updating their website.

Their website is fully lame. I offered to help him do it (for free) a year or two ago, and he ignored my emails.

I'm glad they put on events and bring purses and sponsors to our sport and certainly they were a big part of getting our sport off the ground.... but they are piss poor at returning calls, answering the phone, returning e-mails or doing anything they say they will do- direct experience, not opinion.

The day will come (or is it here?) that competitors will have other viable options and will choose to take their teams elsewhere.

Thanks to all the other promoters who are putting on other events and series in both different and competing regions, your efforts are appreciated.

I have tried a few times to get ahold of RCAA and have never been about to talk to anyone in the office.

I think RCAA could learn a little from CRCA and CalRocs, it's easy to get ahold of them anytime and both respond to email.

Tonya, et all ...
I agree with all that's been said and will add that the Pro-Rocks site is another real looser.
I posted this press release because I'm on the list to recieve them from RCAA due to my past media participation.
I must say that Beau White at least sets a good example to follow by issuing them.
Rich keeps us here on POR pretty well posted on what's happening with CalROCS.
But frankly, there are a lot of folks that don't know the difference between CalROCS and CRCA! California Rock ... what?
The Internet is all about information, and mostly free at that ...
Those who do not learn to harness the web snooze and lose, generating no interest, much less excitment to the sport.
So post up! Announce what's new and upcoming events.
Let this hungry audience know what's going on ... on a regular basis. That's we (and you) are here for ... :p ;)

Jaffer, I always appreciate your posting the press releases.:)

I agree with you one Pro-Sux website. Its almost a sink of info not a source.

You need to check out C.R.C.A.'s revamped website it is really very nice, lots of info, competitor profiles, pics, even a forum. Way to go Tonya.

Thanks Nobody20. I really appreciate that! A website is only as good as its last update. I am not always great at keeping new information on the site either, but since we started the series, I like to keep things fresh.

I am going to be putting on a new Membership Spotlight today. It will be from our stock class, Mr. Don Gardner. Those of you interested in competing in stock, check in out. He is a good example to go by.

I should have some recap articles up from Rocktoberfest very soon. Members of the CRCA reading this, I always appreciate any content or pics you would like to add to the site and the newsletter. I should have the newsletter out to you this week.

Thank you to all who have visited our forums and emailed me with your opinions. I am debating as to whether we will keep the forums, I want something useful for the members, but we all go here anyway. Something to think about.

See most of you in January. I will post the openings as they fill and any other pertinent information as well. :)

I think you ought to keep your forum its a good place for competitors and members to discuss specifically C.R.C.A. issues.

Hope to meet you in January.

Thanks for that! Jeff and I were just talking about that this morning. I think that is where we're headed with our forum.

I look forward to meeting you too.

ARCA RRCA or what ever, has done well for the sport in the beginning. Because of the lame web site that was under constuction for a year. Never returning phone calls or e-mails we now have more series to pick from. I will show support for Cal rock, UROC, Pro rock, and Baja rocks because they actually take the time and call or e-mail people for entries. They seem to care if people come to thier events. Good luck to all of you. I hope I can compete in your events next year. Time and money will tell!!!!

I would really like to see the promoters put together information packs for sponsors. I'm pursuing a few sponsors for the next CalRocs season, two of whom are not familiar with the sport. I'd like to be able to provide them with information on the events such as crowd numbers, current series sponsors, background on the promoter, etc.

Would make my job a little easier.

I'm sure the various sanctioning bodies are providing that information to THEIR potential sponsors ;)
