Carry multiple bikes on your rig? I can't get 2 bikes on my tj and have room for a passenger. The 37" spare is bike rack prohibitive.
easiest to just mod my hitch mounted rack? I need it to be about 4" deeper to fit around the spare.

I use a hitch extension. The converter from the 2" to the 1.25" is just right for mine. It puts mu rack right behind my spare.
My bike rack is the Yakima double down 4. It will convert from a 2" hitch to a 1.25".

My rack is a 2" and so is my hitch....I would need to extend and keep it at a 2" size.

I am running 37s on a tj and I bought a hitch mount, welded a short reciever to the center of my tire carrier, cut down the total height of the rack, shortened the 2" leg so it would ride closer to the spare, rides high enough to not hit rocks. If you want I can email you a pic.http://i867.photobucket.com/albums/ab234/roadsterguy/jeepbikerack003.jpghttp://i867.photobucket.com/albums/ab234/roadsterguy/jeepbikerack004.jpg

With a hitch extension you could buy a 4 bike north shore rack @ www.northshoreracks.com I have the 6 bike one and it works great.

I slapped this together. JOKER rack V1. The JR V2 has a rear wheel rest on both sides, tie-down points and wheel retention deals, but this gives you the idea.
