i have a 71 scout half cab i am gonna lift it.. i thought about the spring over because its really cheep.. but i was told not to do it because it chances to camber alot and tires will wear out fast.. is that true? is that something an allignment will fix? what other cheep eficient lift options are there?

You are more likely to find the informaiton you are looking for over on the http://www.binderplanet.com/ forum than over here

Like Phoenixsomd said, www.binderplanet.com is probably better for this.

however, short answer is, when you do your SOA, you'll need to turn the axle to have a good pinion angle for the driveshaft. This causes your caster to be out of whack.

You'll have to do what is known as a "cut n turn" which will turn the knuckles, not the whole axle, thus giving you what you need, without ruining your camber.

There are SOA kits available which give you everything you need, but they are pricey. See http://www.anythingscout.com/part/2904-spring-over-axle-kit-scout-ii

There are some people who have done SOA's without doing this, but most of them do cut and turn.

If you do anything more than a minimal lift (1-3"), you will have to deal with caster & pinion angle issues. (IE they will need to be fixed).
This is because you are raising the T-case from the axle, creating a steeper angle for the drive shaft.

It doesn't matter if it's a SOA giving you 4-6" of lift or springs that do the same.

EDIT:A simple Search would have revealed this. So delete this crap & follow the advice above.

You shouldn't lift a half cab, the aerodynamics are such that after lifting the laminar airflow breaks up just in front of the tailgate causing ill handling and as a result the undercab body mounts rust out

Search, more information that you care to know about SOA's and lifting Scouts out there. Search, read, absorb THEN ask for clarification if need be.

"Cheap" SOA is a misnomer. Unless you have lots of parts and pieces on hand, don't by new bolts, have machining equipment at home etc. It can be done on the cheap, but if you REALLY add up all the parts and pieces you use... as if you had to buy them the first time, AND use all new or like new and upgraded parts (i.e. do it right), ANY performance mod is not "cheap".

I have what you really need. For $600 I will sell you a full size eight lug Dana 44 with a Detroit a stirring box set up for ram assist, hoses, the ram, a 14 bolt and a set of 4" lift springs. All you will need is a center section for the 14 bolt and a few odds and ends. I will give you every thing I have U bolts spring plates every thing. It all came out of my scout. (except the 14 bolt you would get came out of something ells):smokin::smokin:
