: SeanP I have a few ? about your XJs setup.
XJ4EVER 11-01-2002, 09:42 PM I have a 2000 XJ with AA HD sye and T.W. DS. I had a Rustys lift, but it sucked. I am stock now and going to build a 6"-8" lift using RE/SJ/Currie/BO/JKS I believe. I want to run 35s on my stock lp d30 and 8.25 except upgrade axle shafts. I have a few questions first.
1. What made you go to a 9" rear? What vehicle did you get it from? Full size Bronco? I can build a 9" for about $800-$1k with locker, gears and 35 spline shafts.
2. How do you feel about the lp d30 and 35s or the 29 spline 8.25?
3. What kind of lift are you running and how much did you cut your fenders?
4. Got some more pics besides rolling?
Thanks
Jason R 11-01-2002, 09:48 PM If you search all of your questions will be answered...
Your 8.25 and D30 should hold up to its share of abuse for a while. However I don't really believe in spending money on these axles so when they break, replace with a d44 or a 9" etc. You say you can build a 9" for a grand, I say do it. If you want to get wheelin in a hurrie lunch box lockers will suffice for those stock axles. :D
My $.02.
Kensoffroad 11-01-2002, 09:51 PM you can see mine Here (http://www.justgpn.rockcrawler.com) It is a 99 with 37x13 boggers running on the 30 front 29 spline 825 rear with a mix lift like your talkin:D

Thanks and I have just finished searching about 10 pages. No answers really answered just more interesting info.

Wow thats bada$$. How hard do you wheel on that setup? Whos long arms do you have? Whos LCAs and UCAs?
Thanks
JS-Economos 11-01-2002, 10:56 PM I know a lot of guys who put a lot of trust in their D30 and the 29 spline 8.25. Far as I know, the only problems Sean has had with his D30 was spitting 297x caps. His front is loaded with an ARB and 4.56s and he has built crossover steering over the knuckle using heims and also relocated his track-bar over the axle. His rear is a standard cut 9" w/ 35 spline shafts, 4.56s and a Detroit. I think he bought the axle after somebody had cut it down to XJ/YJ/TJ/ZJ width (60.5") but could be wrong.
Not sure what coils he runs (RE?), but he is running RE TJ long arms with a custom crossmember and hes got 6" Big Off-Road leafs in the rear. BTW, if any of this is wrong, he'll chime in.
HTH.

Its tomken lowers and crossmember and tera flex regulr length uppers with tomken bracketry.I wheel it hard enough to tear the control arm mounts out of the frame, shear rear block pins out, blow drive shafts and tear exhaust off all the last time I went wheelin in it.:D never had any trouble with the axles locked w/4.56s did you look at the photo page?
XJ4EVER 11-02-2002, 06:07 AM Yeah I looked at the photos. Thats why I say bada$$:) .
Thanks for the info and for the pics.
SeanP 11-02-2002, 09:55 AM Welcome newbie :flipoff2: . You can use the PM if you need more questions answered. Jason has it pretty much down. The 9" was built by currie in 1991 for a guy with an XJ. Guy's wife wrecked the XJ and his friend had the 9"D30 in barn for 5 years. I paid $850 for it wuth 4.56's, Detroit, and Moser Axles. Detroit later turned out to be a Trashloc   . Live and learn.
I had a 29SPline 8.25 axle with a No-Slip lunchbox locker. It worked very well and as long as you aren't fully bouncing the rearend, it will work pretty well. The lunchbox lockers only take an hour or two to install and can be resold pretty easily when you go to change out your rear to a D44/60/9" in the future. Your D30 will hold up OK, better if you have an automatic. I know a lot of TJ guys with 5SP that have broken a lot with 35s and a 30, and I am convinced that the difference is the torque converter slipping.
I am a huge fan of smaller lifts and more sawsall. As you can tell from some of my pics, I have a total and utter disregard for sheetmetal and have had a lot of fun in my XJ. It hurt a lot less to hack my fenders since I already had trail rash everywhere.
Sit back and read a bunch on this site and you will learn. I would also frequent NAXJA for more XJ-pertinant info. PBB is more college level, even my rig is one of the less built here. This site is great because I am now to the point of building a new front axle and maybe an engine swap. Save yourself the trouble and don't ask "What lift can I use to fit chrome nerf bars under my XJ"

Jason R 11-02-2002, 10:55 AM Try www.naxja.org
In the forums the sierra chapter is the hardest core of them, most likely. There is alot of good tech and the like for XJs on there. Sean and I are also registered there, check it out. :D

Yeah but did you have to drive on the interstate 50 miles to go to work? Its not fun doing that.
I found out the problem, it was my sorry stock Goodyears, one tire was out of round. So now I am hungry for more. Can you blame me?:)
lets see i drove to tellico (7hrs), and u havent driven Interstate40 in Greensboro, NC....my dads stock ZJ rides like a tank on it with all the potholes and just plain sucks.....
Kind of cracks me up it was ur tires and u didnt check that. Mine ended up being my CA's were loose (i couldnt tell)
