: would you do it?
mytzlflick 11-02-2002, 05:02 AM ok I broke my chev out wheeling big time so I take out the 96 dodge deisel tow vwhicle instead. to make a long story short the thing is awsome off road, nice to drive and so I get the idea to wheel it more.
problem is my off road tires are 44's. I think with a 3 inch body lift, 2 inch leveling kit, dropped bumpstops and a lot of fender trimming I can fit em.
the question is would you do it? I'd like to hear from people who have made similar commitments and do you regret it?
elf_cruiser 11-02-2002, 05:33 AM single cab or not? If yes, then I'd consider it. But get a real lift for it, that'll flex, not just a body lift and leveling kit.
Flipper 11-02-2002, 08:56 AM Fix your trail rig. If you wheel your tow vehicle, it won't be long until it goes boom too. That is how people end up with a backyard full of broken sh*t. Fix your trail rig, it will be cheaper/smarter in the end.

agreed, expecially sense no vehicle is reall equiped from the factory to run 44's even if its a one ton I would bet you smok a tranny or clutch sooner then later. Fix your trail rig after all it is your trail rig.
mytzlflick 11-02-2002, 01:01 PM front axle failure was a given its only a light duty 60. the t-case may also go.
the rest of it is bulletproof. 13 inch clutch nv4500, dana80
yes its a single cab, plans would include shortening the wheelbase some for manuverability.
FIX THE TRAIL RIG
WHAT ARE YOU :smokin:
reddwarf 11-02-2002, 02:14 PM Body lifts on diesel vehicles are a lot of trouble because of the intercooler and air flow passages. It is a strictly custom deal.
Fix that bad Chevy. That thing is pretty hardcore:cool:
gunracer1 11-02-2002, 02:18 PM the body lift is no big deal, my brother just did it to his 99 dodge diesel. but i promise the best way to fawk up a tow rig is lift it. just fix your trail rig . thats my 2 cents mike
mytzlflick 11-02-2002, 02:24 PM yeah probably right, damm I have a lot of work cut out for me.
anyone know how hard it is to convert a th4002wd to fit a np205?
Slinky 11-02-2002, 04:25 PM Dunno about adapting to a 205, but Novak (http://www.novak-adapt.com/knowledge/th400.htm) might provide some basic info for ya. It looks like their Dana 18/20 and Dana 300 adapter kits include a new output and require disassembly of the tranny. If I read correctly, it doesn't matter whether it's a 2 or 4 drive tranny.

Well said...........if you wheeled you dd you would have nothing to cruise the mall parking lot with when you break next time:D
Flipper 11-03-2002, 01:00 PM It sucks not to be able to wheel because your sh*t is broken. It really sucks to tear up your daily transportation.
I learned the hard way why people have trail only rigs that ride on trailers......but I did learn. I now have a play toy and a trailer. If shit goes wrong, I get dragged back to the trailer, load up, go home and get ready for work on Monday.
