: Arb hose connections

Surely there has to be a easy/better/good way to put the ARB hose connection together. Anyone have any secrets they's like to share?

Which one you talking about specifically diff?? Mine was simple enough. I heard the stainless conv is a bit more tricky and way more $$. The most tense part of mine was bending the copper tube out of the housing making sure not to kink it ($80).

Yeah, it's the fitting on the diff (not in the diff). It has the hose, sleeve and flared bushing. Any easy ways to get that together?

If you are haveing problems getting the farrel (brass bushing) on the hose, you probably mixed the farrel for the copper line with the farrel for the plastic line. There is a difference trust me I found out the hard way.

I cut all that plastic line off and silver soldered a 1/4 sae male flare to the old bulkhead fitting. Then I just used a steel braided line with female flare ends. I got the line at a local refrigeration supply house. I can take a picture if you want.

I did the same thing when I put my own air locker in. The 2 comp sleeve's you get look the same but they are not. I beleive the one for the copper tube is like 3/16" and the one for the blue
airline is 5MM. Beleive me the 3/16" sleeve will not fit on the 5MM
plastic line, but the 5MM one will work on the copper tube in the diff.

Otherwise the fittings go together easy if those peices are not mixed up.

EXACTLY what I do also. (silver solder the -4an after tightening it into the bulkhead mating piece) But I use braided stainless brake lines.

Yep, I made damn sure to figure those out and seperate them. The silver solder idea sounds like a good one, the conv fittings add up quickly. A friend of mine did his with fittings and they came out to $90 per axle, including braided lines.

Yours is better. now you have a spare part to steal if needed.

Just convert to regular barbed fittings. That way you can regular air hose. I have now for a couple of years and there is no way I would go back to the ARB line.

As for the SS hoses. Cool, but around here there is so much crap floating around in the mud and sticks on the trail that want to rip off any line under the vehicle, I chose to keep it simple and easily field repairable....

OK.

closest to the diff is the stock bulkhead fitting, then we have the part that screws into the bulkhead which compresses the lower ferrule onto the copper line in the diff. To that I silver soldered an 1/8pipe to -3an adapter. The thread count/pitch is the same but national pipe has a taper whereas british pipe and this particular fitting have no taper. You could pipe dope it but silver seals way better and strengthens the overall connection. To that I have a section of normal braided SS brake line with the -3 an fitting which goes to the solenoid. I have found this to be simple and reliable even when used amongst icebergs!!

up here theres alot of muddy log invested marshes to get through.

the stock arb lines are a joke...

they probably think its pretty funny when they get ripped apart and people get stuck. converted a buddys to the braided lines and it didn't ever happen again.
