:flipoff2:

So.. here goes...again... Fuel Storage

I put in a 19 gallon fuel cell in the back of my 80 a couple years ago, no problem, love it.

http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=485904

At the beginning, I had both saddle tanks still in it to keep a large reserve of gas. So I actually had 3 gas tanks.. which on long weekends I almost burnt thru them all. (Carb V8 and heavy foot) It was nice to not worry about running low, or have to carry extra jerry cans.

Problem now is that the leaky passenger side gas tank has been out for the last year, and now my drivers side saddle tank is leaking too... :mad3:

Also I am planning to rehab my rear cage and put some ninja bars on the scout. So the stock saddle tanks might be in the way.

Option 1: Buy some KREEM gas tank sealer and reseal both saddle tanks(already did this b4 with my motorcyle tank, worked great) This will probably cost @ $75 per tank. Thus making the rear rollbar be curvy as hell around the fenders/tanks to get to the frame.

Option 2: Buy another 19 gallon fuel cell and mount it right next to the other one. @ $250 or more. If this is the case, then my rear roll bar can go straight thru the fenders to the side of the frame.

Option 3: Buy the MTS plastic 12 gallon replacement gas tanks for both sides. @ $180 each. Rear roll bar curvy issue again, and back to stock tank setup.

Option 4: Stop over thinking it... and just fix the fawker :flipoff2:

Brian - take out that big ol' 350, tranny and case...give them to me...I still need an engine. Put in a little 4 banger and you good to good with just the 19 gal tank. Problems solved... And thanx!

IMHO it wouldn't make sense to waste the money on the pour in sealer that may not work if you have too big of holes. It's also a pita. I soldered my s120 tank that had a bunch of holes in it and it worked out fine.

take some pennys and shine them up, and sand the area around the hole really good. bend the penny a little so it sets flush, cover in flux, and add heat to the area with a propane torch (not mapp gas). Then wick in some rosin core solder and you are gtg. I patched a couple bigger holes with nickles. All in all i've got 9 cents in my gas tank repair.

Let the tank set open for a couple days in the sun before doing it so that all the vapor is gone, then test to see if it's still got gas vapors in it by holding your torch at an arms length and putting it down the neck.

Pull the tanks, have them boiled out and cleaned and then asses wether they can be repaired. personally I would pull the tanks, cut the area's that are leaking, weld in new pieces, cheack for leaks then reseal the tanks with POR15.

stockers aren't 12 gallon are they??

Mine leaks from the bottom somewhere... slowly.. Not enough to drip but enough to see it wet and smell it.

I ran the 3 tank setup for a year. (2 stockers, 20 gal cell). Then I went to fuel injection and pulled the stockers and ran two fuel cells side by side inside the bed. (20gal, 16gal) When I did the body work and paint, I pull the 16gal out and am just running just the 20 now. I still have the stock tanks if anyone wants them. Good condition, no rust inside. You'd have to come pic them though.

The two cell idea is tempting.. and I should go to FI one of these days.

Yeah I could come get the stock ones...:D sweet :grinpimp:

And if my ninja bars turn into a small exo like yours, I won't have to worry about where the rear roll cage will poke thru.

I think they are more like 10 gallon.. thats probably why MTS says theirs wont fit with vin #'s FC35340 or lower

Just to rehash..

Leaky gas tanks is just one part of the issue, the other is designing my rear roll bar system and storage.

This is how the rear is setup.

With 19 gallon RCI cell

If I keep the saddle tanks, I'll probably add front supports down thru the floor to the frame.

The rear leg bars will be cut off, and redone to extend to the rear corners, and ninja bars added.

This is what DnC had pics of, to avoid the fenders/gas tanks

True that!!! Only I don't want no stinking IH engine in my jeep...you got that little ole 350 in yours...now that might work...

But I do know someone that if you bought the aluminum, they just may make you some custom built tanks to replace those saddles...

Also, don't forget I have a tube bender and a couple of dies to fit up the roll cage mod...
