T Meisch 11-02-2002, 11:41 AM I am seriously looking at running the split Hummer wheels on my 404. I would like to hear from anyone who has run/is running them on a 404. Mitchell, I ve heard you are running a Hummer variant but I haven t found any specifics. He has been handling all my other mods so far. Nobody has even bolted a set on their truck????????? : ( Tom Meisch Rochester, NY coachgeo 11-03-2002, 05:57 PM I hear that hummer rims are a common mod for mogs I have a friend in Mont Rose NY area that could prob. do it too. hard part is balancing the rim after you do it. If you dont drive it at hwy speeds like I do it wont matter. MOGXJ44 11-03-2002, 06:07 PM Yeah, it can be done. Plenty of people on the Mogml list have done it. I've taken plenty of measurements. Gonna order a set soon with 4.5" backspace. This is the most possible WITH mods done to the drums and backing plate. The most possible WITHOUT mods to the drums or backing plates is 3". Hope this helps. Travis Thanks for the measurments!!!!!!!!!! Welllllll.... I would not say PLENTY on Mogml have done it, only cause 98% or more of them are stock rigs..... Not that it really matters. But, yeah hand full their have done it successfully. Havent heard of any unsucessfull ones. I have not heard of how many worked to balance the rim in the process though. Not much rock crawling around here so street will always be necessary. The Hummer wheels very well may be off-road use only. That would not be a problem. I trailer it if I am taking it more than about 40 miles. Here are pics of the frame chop and crossmember swap.
