Today at the pick-n-pull I found 2 ford vans with semi floating 8 lug rears........I have no idea what they are. The cover looks like an 8.8, yet it looks a little different. It's definately smaller than a dana 60.
Anyone have any idea what they are? Sorry no pictures.

Definately not an 8", and definately smaller than a dana 60 so its not a 10.25......certainly not a 9"
If I had more time, I would have pulled an axle.
Some one must own one of these, as they dont' seem too rare.

what you seen was a 8.8 with 8 lug axles flanges this was the cheapest 3/4 ton option ford offered my buddy had one blew the guts right out of it replaced it with a dana 60 weight bearing axle other words known as a semifloat rear

I thought it was an 8.8. The ends of the axle tubes looked different than most 8.8's....round vs. square.
Any idea how many splines the axles are?

They also offered a 8 lug SF 60. It has 35 spline shafts with C clip

Yup mentioned the d60 Semifloat in my previous post
as far as the splines in the 8 lug 8.8 I am thinking it is a 31 spline c clip like its 1/2 ton counterpart but I could be wrong been a few years since I even looked at one of those phony things

Yeah, I've heard of the elusive semi float d60. Have yet to see one though. That's why I was quick to look when I saw 8 lug semi float......then I was like wtf.
The one van was for sure a E-250, so that would be a 3/4 ton. As I mentioned before, the axle tubes were different.......so, I think it could be worth a look to see how many splines the axles are. I expect 31 spline as well, possibly with an oversize axle bearing.

8 lug sf 60s are not elusive. 3/4 ton f250s had them from 1980+ as well. There are also sf 61s too. The center is identical (60) to any other 60, 35 splines axles retained by c-clip.... The 61 is hi ratio/ring spacer needed...

Never seen or heard of an 8 lug 8.8. I've seen SF60 and SF10.25, I own one of each. I would like to hear more about the 8.8 that is 8 lug.
