I pulled a four speed out of a 71 chevy full size with a transfer case attached. It is a four speed with I believe a granny gear but I'm not sure because I never drove the truck. I have been told that it could be a sm465 with a np205???? how can i tell for sure?
I am also putting in a th400 but not sure if I should mate it to the np205 or go to the np208 which I already have te adapter to, I plan on building a 327 for the truck and hope to pull about 300-350 hp. thanks for any responses, I'm new to this and trying to get as much info as poss. thanks again.

What does the t-case look like?Is it triangle shaped or oval?Does the tranny have a bump on the passenger side?Could be a 465 with a 205 or 420 with a rockwell.Need more info or pics.Blazin:D
Oh yeah, the 400 is a auto and doesn't have a seperate bellousing. To mount the 205 behind the 400 you will need a different adapter and input shaft for the 205.

 Man this is a newbee question if I have ever heard one! Try a search you can get all the info you need if you search.
SM 420 appx 10" long, 465 appx 12" long. NP 205 has a little round cover on the back with three bolts. 203 is a big ass two pice SOB with a aluminum tailhousing section. Should be a 465 trans prob a 205 but could be a D20 (not very common but anything is possible think they used them on the 6 cyl trucks with a 3 speed, thats just a guess though). I dont have a clue when they used the Rockwell stuff or what it looks like.

If you want to use the th400 with the 205 (From the 4 spd) you will probably need to change the input shaft on the case. The spline count will probably be different.

Now, send me the 465!

465/205.
GM used either a turbo 350 or a SM465 in gen 1 blazers. Since thee 420 wasn't made in 1971 and it's not likely that someone went to the trouble to mate it to the 205. Given that little tid-bit of info, you can go back and look at the crossmember to see if the frame has been redrilled. If so, you have something other than stock... :smokin:
