wngrog 11-03-2002, 03:57 AM RustyB, my AWESOME fabricating buddy has just begun the tube fenders on Kate.
RustyB is the guy who built my cage and I knew he would be the guy to do these fenders.
Metalmender...thanks a MILLION for the pictures and the ideas.
RustyB has taken those ideas and made some fenders of his own, with very little input from me.
Run with it brother! The fenders are AWESOME!
wngrog 11-03-2002, 03:59 AM Front view...
wngrog 11-03-2002, 04:00 AM Rear view....I really like this touch RustyB.
The cage will tie into this piece in the front.
wngrog 11-03-2002, 04:03 AM Angle.

Looks really good. Are you going to put sheet metal over them?

Yes, but it won't be removable like MetalMender's are.
fj40charles 11-03-2002, 07:46 AM I like your waste mgmt. style fenders.... :D :D :D
Looks like people are finally catching on to this idea.

I am going to spray the entire truck red again and I will probably paint just the sheet metal parts black to outline the tubing.
Either that or they will be all red. They will be all red first and if I like it, that is the way they will stay.
Rusty will prime them black for now.
Mustard Dog 11-03-2002, 08:32 AM Cool, I really like how you guys made the angle at the front to keep the Cruiser look;)
TablerockToy 11-03-2002, 10:09 AM Looks great biggin!! I have allways liked tube fenders on the cruisers! what size tube is that? Its just right, really clean!! O and my vote(as if it matters) is for black cage and grill gard with red fenders!! That would look sweet:D

BJ On Roids 11-03-2002, 01:17 PM AWESOME
i like how it came back towards the body, allows a heap better view of where your tyres are going!!
74_Chevota 11-03-2002, 04:53 PM Wow those are Awesome!!! Does anyone know if those are legal on a DD? I would realy like to fab some up when i get a tube bender. :)

It all depends on where you live..
Not sure how NC's "safety checks" every year will deal with them...
Nolen, another thing.
Suppose Rusty would make a set that hug the body closer? Like stick out 5" or so???
It is not like they are really going to do much mud deflection anyway...
TxCruzr 11-03-2002, 06:36 PM Those are freaking awsome
They fit perfectly...and I'm sure you'll be able to test them out soon:flipoff2:
Lookin good :smokin:

MetalMender 11-03-2002, 08:17 PM I like um :D
Looking good nolen, looks like rusty is doing a great job on them.
Look for updates on my project soon as I plan on taking down to paragon next weekend for it's maiden voyage :D :D
rustyb 11-03-2002, 09:04 PM I love them!!!!!!!!
How are they going to tie into the cage?
Hey Jason M, since Nolen never had the cage tied to the frame, I will make the front legs of the cage tie into the rear of the fenders where they tuck under the body. It will only take about 6'' of tubing to tie from the bottom of the tub to the tube fender.
As for making them stick out 5'' or so, it is possible, but remember, the body tapers outward toward the rear so you would end up with very little fender left at the back. Besides that, you would also cut down on the amount of space to put the wrenches and beer. :D
I have also tied the upper shock mount to the fender for longer travel. Right now it gives him another 4'' of travel. I may relocate the mounting point to get approx 6'' more than he has now.;) It just depends on what he wants.
Eskimo 11-04-2002, 06:50 AM Nolen, they look like crap.. Better send 'em over to me for proper disposal. :flipoff2:
I hate you man... no, really.. :D
 to you and your fab-god... they are great!
Gunmetalcruz 11-04-2002, 08:25 AM Nolen,
You beat me to it. We are starting on mine next week. Looking sweeeet! Tom
Gunmetalcruz 11-04-2002, 08:36 AM How did you attach the front vertical tube to the front clip? Does it bolt on on weld? I've been wondering for a while it it will help with the hood shifting while flexing?
rustyb 11-04-2002, 12:22 PM How did you attach the front vertical tube to the front clip? Does it bolt on on weld? I've been wondering for a while it it will help with the hood shifting while flexing?
The vertical front tubes are bolted to the front clip. I just drilled holes in the side of the tube to match the slots in the clip. I then stuck a bolt in each hole with the hex head inside the tube and tacked it . This was done before I welded it to the horizontal tube that runs under the edge of the hood.
BJ On Roids 11-04-2002, 06:58 PM thanks champ!!
BJ On Roids 11-04-2002, 07:03 PM wait till i bootie myself some up ;)

High5 11-05-2002, 06:10 PM i dig the fenders! some what similar to what i have planned for my project. what size tube is it? 1.5"? i want to use 1.5" for my fenders but i don't have a 1.5" die. i'll just have to see if i want to order one when the time comes. if not they'll be 1.75 like everything else.

It is 1.5"
If you have a JD2, Rusty might loan it to you for a while. I don't know if he is planning on doing anymore 1.5" after my fenders anytime soon.
Thanks Brian!
rustyb 11-06-2002, 04:18 AM I used 1.5'' tubing. The die I used is 6.5''clr. If I had it to do over, I would use the 5.5''clr die. I think it would help out when making the back to back bends on separate planes.
As for progress pics, be patient. I am doing this in my spare time, which is not much right now. Hopefully, I will have made enough progress by tomorrow evening to justify sending pictures.
texican 11-06-2002, 06:52 PM [ I am doing this in my spare time,
