: Winch Mounting Qs

I'm gettin' ready to fab up my front bumper/winch mount and have been thinking of making a receiver in each end instead of permanently mounting it on the front. Pros and Cons?

If I decide to permenantly mount one in the front, what size plate (how big an area) do I need to make to bolt up a 8274?

Any problems cutting out the grill and mounting it as close to the radiator as possible so as to reduce overhang?

As for the reciever mount method - I have seen people get enough of a side load when winching to tweak the reciever mounts. I am sure it works fine on light weight vehicles and if only used for easy winching situations but with the weight of a scout and anything tough... I don't know...

I recesed mine in about as far as you can on a Scout II, its right up to the radiator.

I used a piece of 8" "C" channel, cut about an inch out of it, been plenty strong so far. Its just bolted to the front cross member. (new crossmember).

if/when I do it again, I will raise it up, I still hit it occationaly, expecialy with the big ass roller fair-lead...

8274 is a big beetch for a receiver mount. I'll trade you my M8000 to use, straight up :p

Seems the receiver mounts are a PITA when you want to pull cable you gotta move all the crap out of the way heav the sucker out of there then hook it up. Plus if your at a weird angle could make it near impossible to get to. My 2 cents

I wuz afraid of that. Just thought it'd be handy to have one in the front or back as needed and in the garage when maul wheelin'.
