Okay this is a newbie type question. I'm sure if it could be done someone would have by now...but I haven't seen it discussed. I did searches several ways and surprisingly found no topics on this.

Question: Can you put a 4 to 1 in a 205? Why hasn't this been done?

well someplace out there u will find it discussed

but the case is so close to the gears that it is not possible.... they could create them but it would comprimse strength too much........ there is suppose to be a 3:1 gear set that is to come out sometime in the spring.....

Try coloradok5.com board or offroaddesign.com . They have the low down on 205 3 to 1 gears. Probably looking at about $900 for the set-up.

You can get the doubler from Offroad Design. Try this site:

http://www.coloradok5.com/

Here's the text from Stephen (regarding 3 to 1 gears and the doubler, which is available for Fords too, not just Chevys):

That's about the scoop, sometime around Feb of next year we should have them available. That's assuming testing and all go as planned but it all looks good so far. Preliminary pricing looks like about $750 or so for the set. That's obviously +/- as much as $100 more or less.
As this date becomes closer and more firm (a closer, firmer date, HMMMMM ) we may look at creating a list for the first batch to help manage the initial rush.

I think this could be a pretty cool deal. Doubler kit with 2,3 and 6:1 gearing, wahoo! And the gears are in the right place to work right, the 205! Or even in a general use 4wd, 3:1 could work well as a single transfer case. I'm showing about 42:1 with 4.56's, 3:1 'case and a TH700. That's a pretty decent crawl with a single case and would work well with smaller tires in smaller terrain and could really shine in wheelspin intensive terrain like sand, snow, mud, etc.

This could be the hot ticket for big tires, big rocks, low numeric axle ratios and TH350 and TH400 trannies. Once again you can save the money on 5.13 diff gears and 3:1 TH400 gears and still end up with a HUGE crawl ratio and strong ring and pinions. Calculations say 62:1 with a TH350, 6:1 Doubler t-case and 4.10 axle gears. That's where I'm at now with a TH700 and 5.13's and standard 4:1 Doubler and I rarely want more and if there was no other option, could gladly live with it.

Of course 94:1 will be fun to play with!

Then there's 180:1 with an SM465 and 4.56 axle gears.....

Making the world better, one truck at a time.
