Do i need to pull the springs to get to the shocks?

If as RRC is the same as a disco, NO

Remove the four nuts holding on the "hat"
Hold the bottom of the shock with a pair of channel locks and remove the bottom nut and the whole thing comes out. If you snap off the studs that hold on the hat you will need to remove the spring. Soak the studs and nuts in Pen oil now.
