Haven't been by here in a good bit, figured I'd slip in.
Know a few folks other than me have been having issues with blowing that rubber boot on the driveshaft CV.. Kinda like this..

I've gone through about 3 shafts now all due to the same issue. Last one, not only the boot ripped, but at least to of the balls in the CV got lanuched into never never land.. Up until now, it's not been much of an issue because they've been covering them under warranty.. Warranty is out now, so it's all one me..
You can find rebuilt OEM shafts on ebay for about $250.. New from the dealer is closer to $400.. I figured what's the point in replacing something I knew was gonna screw up with something else I know is gonna screw up again..
So.. Here's where I ended up..

And it's rebuildable with new joints..

Was a bit of a tight fit.. You can remove the OEM without dropping the skids but you can't get the new one back in without dropping the front of the tranny portion.. That or remove the torsion bar..

Pretty much any competent drive shaft guy can build one of these.. Pretty common design. The biggest issue with the replacement is the flange in the transfer case end of the shaft. There's a centering lip on the inside that has to be mated up to the transfer case.. If the flange is missing it, or it's the wrong size it could jack things up a bit..
If you don't have someone close by that can build for you, I had it build at Truck Parts Specialties in Memphis, (901) 332-7000. You can ask for Jason.. Tell him you're interested in the Hummer H3 shaft. He should know what you're talking about. If he needs the measurements again, lemme know and I'll get in touch with him and get the part numbers to him.. Think I still have the build sheet around here somewhere..
Price was a good bit cheaper than a new OEM shaft at $275 + Tax.. May be a bit more, due to shipping..
