Thanks Mike! You guys rock. Not only did the guys I bought the shit from talk story, hang out and give me some great ideas, but on the way home my truck blew the radiator apart, they rescued me! It's just geat to work with awesome people you meet on the board. Thanks again! I'll have that radiator back to Mike in no time.

Lop,
I figured it was sold, but I just wanted make sure. Its probably better that it is, because if it wasnt, then Id need to find a 60 rear, D300 t case, and Id need to have my exhaust re routed.. Thats the eventual plan, but not yet :)

I guess the donor truck said "Custom Deluxe 30" on the fender so you naturally assumed that meant it had a Dana 30, right? I mean, Custom Deluxe 10 has a 10-bolt front......

got my dana 30 outa the truck the EASY way. here how it went

1 get tow strap
2 tie around dana 30 hub
3 tie the other end around a tree
4 drive the truck
5 cover craters left in the yard by the little 30
6 get a few cold ones

looks good. i had to strip mine bare to move it around by myself and to get it outa the front yard.

the easiest way to get an axle out is Top Gun style. hammer down in reverse, hit the brakes and that d30 will slide right out.

83 chebby. It's got those automatic hubs too, so I need some 30 spline lockouts.

Did you sell your junk? I hope so. Felt bad we just did'nt hook up. It was like you were MIA for a couple of days and this came along and I could'nt pass it up.

Cant wait till next payday. I'm looking forward to talking to you then. I know you know your shit and I'm still learning one ton front ends. Any money I can swing your way, I sure will. thanks

You should be stoked. 83 will have the thick inners and it should have a thick cover also. The auto hubs are cool- they're like a puzzle. Didn't sell my junk. I'm going to grab the axles and haul the rest to the junk yard. Then I'm going to convert the front to srw, narrow it to 64 or 65 put in 35 spline stubs and have the slugs broached to match and keep them as a matched set to put in something down the road. Total cost should be pretty cheap. I have enough leftovers to do a front 60/9 so I may do that also. Doesn't really matter- I just want to get rid of the eyesore in my carport!!!

Yup. I checked it out online. No neck downs in this baby. It's a brutal frigg'n axle man. Kinda funny, cause I never got to really play with one before, but I had NO IDEA how much beefier it is over the 44 that was in there. Juzus H! I used to think, awe come on, it's not worth the weight. 44's are almost as stout. WRONG! I think it's frigg'n twice the size of the 44. I'm jacked. :D

Well, when some money comes my way again, I'll be knock'n at your door. With beer in hand of course.

If you have to get hubs anyway (I know you said money is tight) seriously consider getting 35 spline stubs...the hubs cost the same either way (new)...except that you can get the Tera hubs for $130 compared to $185 for the Warns.

I just bought the Tera ones (made by Milemarker) but my sixty won't be going in for another couple days.

Good luck man, and I agree it was definitely nice when comparing to a 44...the shafts are especially.

If you're really tight for cash and want 30 spline lockouts you can use the Ford ones that come stock on the newer trucks (they are all black and 1 piece). Shupee runs them on his buggy and said they hold up well. Besides that they are 1 piece and held in by a snap-ring with finger tabs. So if you break one it takes MAYBE a set of needle nose pliers and 30 seconds to change.

I just got a half dozen of them from a friend and will try a set out for shits and giggles on my Jeep (3600 lbs). I think they are $20 a piece. They fit a D60 bearing hub so I'm assuming that is universal between Ford and Chevy (pretty sure it is). You could probably find them used for free/cheap like I did :D.

Myself and friends have also had VERY good success with Superwinch 30 spline locking hubs. They are like $120 a set.

I've run/broken MileMarker. They were weak and everyone else I talked to had broken them. I tried to be different and it bit me in the ass. I wouldn't associate myself with any locking hub from their company.

Thanks guys, great ideas. Yeah, I'm just gunna stay 30 spline for now. It's not a comp rig but I will be hitting the box and stuff like that. So those Ford lockouts sound perfecto! Just bring spares! Thanks Mr. Dude. Great idea.

You can find spares real easily in most major parking lots and all it takes is a set of needle nose pliers and about 20 seconds to get them

Not that I would steal these but when you think about the simplicity of removal  Also if you have friends with Ford 4x4 trucks you just get a spare off their tow rig :D

A Chebby 6D (AKA the infamous 8-lug Dana 30) weighed 515-530 pounds complete and dry (brakes, hubs, etc), according to the truck stop scale nearby. Can't remember exactly, but it's in there some where.

I think the fords and dodges are a little lighter (40 pounds or so) - maybe because of different wall thicknesses of the tubes, etc...

they all use .5" wall tubes. Dodge units weigh nearly the same as a chevy, fords are lighter but it is because of a lighter center casting.

it is heavy enough! it took 4 guys to get into the truck. i think they are about 550 with all the stuff...mine is a dually so it is a little heavier. the hubs on a dual are about 15 pounds heavier a piece compared to a single

Sheeit...I picked up my "Dana 30" out of my truck and onto the garage floor without dropping it by myself. You out to see the size of my nuts...I wonder if that is associated with a pain I have down there?..hmmmm.
