Hey, me and the wife will be bringing her SAS'd Colorado out for it's mayden voyage this coming weekend. I personally have never been to Fordyce, just looking to see if anyone is gonna be up there?

Some of us will be there saturday morning 9am at the eagle lakes trailhead. We are going to run the trail and stay at 4th crossing sat night. If you want to go be there. We are all locals that are set up to run the fun stuff.

Ok, not too sure when we will be there and what this rig will do. We were thinking just a day trip on Sunday, but maybe we will go up saturday and camp.

Hey, dyce is unforgiven so if the colorado is not armored its going to get damaged! Its not the con where u can go around obstacles the trail is one big obstacle. Just a heads up. Should be a great time though, see you up there dirty.

Hmm, thats interesting. I was going to bust ass and try to get some sliders done before this weekend, but I had kept getting told that unlike the Con, I wouldn't need them at Fordyce...

I don't think we will be getting too deep out there, just because this is the first trip for this rig, the wife will be 34 weeks pregnant, and she has never been wheeling of any sort.

Ummm.. You are making a Very Bad Decision in my opinion. 8.5 weeks pregnant and your taking your girl to a trail that is 2x more difficult than the Con. Low of 25-28 degrees, Probably very wet, probably will snow at some point, or rain, no rocker protection? 1st trip in a new rig??? Comon man, use some common sense!!!

DON"T BE THAT GUY!!!

Same as what Vertigo said. She will never want to go again if this is her first trail and 34 weeks prego.

Hey, I understand completely, and agree to an extent. She wanted to do this trip, and I'm sure it will end up just being a little play around deal for her at the trail head. She is gonna be driving, and she knows if she's not feelin alright then were going home immediatly. I am hoping it's got like a decent staging type area at the trail head? Prairie city is where I was imagining going, so she can just play around, and I can make sure everything is working ok.

All said and done, this is just a play around trip for her. If this place doesn't have a decently open area then I'll change our plans. Is it like a closed type of trail, where your stuck on a certain path and can't turn around?

7 mile dirt road in from Cisco side. 2wd most of the way to the lake. At the actual trail head, if your not on 35s, lockers, gears, rocker protection. Turn Around.

That is all...

If you go in Eagle Lakes side, you could drive around in the woods for a few and have somewhat of a fun time. Probably a suburu could get most of the way.

Truckee hospital sucks and is only a few miles up hwy80.

Don't say we didn't warn you....!

I see. Maybe go in on the eagle lakes side and just let her fling some dirt. She is on beadlocked 37s, SAS, 5.29s, welded rear and open front and quite a flexy suspension. But I'll talk to her and see. It's all up to her.

BAD IDEA buddy:shaking:, i would just go to prarie to make sure everything is a buttoned up, this trail is the hardest trail in the sierras, its gonna be cold, its weather season, up there it can sneek up on you in a couple hrs. And its a tight trail no large staging areas, u hopp on the trail and go...my advice prarie or foresthill or pondorosa.

Seriously, my wifes water broke at 34 weeks with our daughter and I would hate to have this happen to you two on the Fordyce. I wouldn't reccomend visiting the fordyce in your situation but, its your life and if your up there this weekend maybe we'll see you there.

Nothing personal but my wife just called you a jackass. :flipoff2:

Even though it has been said….it’s a bad idea to try and run the trail with your set of circumstances. Good things rarely happen when you say “I’ll just put the tip in”.

For the most part FD is a trail that is a single rig wide and is technical from the start to the finish. It does have spots you can turnaround but you can also find yourself in over your head very quickly. It is the unexpected that will bite you. When I hear "day trip" the first thing that comes to mind is a rig unprepared for an overnight stay on the trail. If you do go plan for a weekend on the trail.

Ok, I understand. I had been going off of what someone told me about the trail. He basically told me everything I needed to hear to want to go. I talked to the wife about it, and let her know that we were misinformed about the trail and that it's way more intense than we heard.

So, it is out of the question now. We will not be going up there and will prolly be going and playing at Prairie City or whereever. I thank everyone that said I was a jackass for a move like that, I was under the impression that the trail was right there off the freeway, and that it was a breeze to run. Ie. A stock jeep on 31s made it almost anywhere...

So, again, thank you for not letting us waste our time and/or getting us into a sticky situation. I'm sure we will be hitting that trail up eventually, just not the near future.

WOW! A coherent, responsible person on Pirate??? I didn't think they existed... I'll be up there this weekend and did NOT want to find you broken with a knife stabbed in your eye from your wife... lol

Good Decision bro! Once you have time to get up there, you'll be happy you postponed it. Good luck with the Family!

Maybe they were talking about the Signal Peak trail. The trailhead is right next to Fordyce.

Was just on the trail this weekend and wanted to give an update on the committee trail. As you are headed down to the river and as you turn off the old portion of the trail there is an very short uphill by a big tree. It has deteriorated and is very challenging. We will fix it next season as the weather has started and the access in from Rattlesnake may be closed shortly. It was snowing heavily as we climbed the summit from Fordyce Lake going back to Cisco. We just wanted to let everyone know we're aware of the condition of that section and to please be careful and to take it easy if you use the committee trail during the last part of this season. We'll add rock to stabilize the section and perhaps redirect traffic to miss the worst part or the section.

Thanks!

How much snow did they get today? Was it sticking heavily?

How deep were the water crossings?

I'm thinking about hitting it the 12th.

We camped at Fordyce Lake and it started to rain late Saturday night. When we left Sunday morning it had just started to turn to snow and got pretty heavy by the time we got to Fordyce Summit. Some was sticking and the trees were covered at about 7000'. The water crossings were not that deep but they were deeper than 3 weeks ago. Ballpark 38 to 40" with a med/low flow rate.

We camped at comittee crossing Saturday night after coming in from eagle lakes and playing on wh3. The snow just started to stick as we left the campsite Sunday morning to head up to the lake. There was easily 3 to 4 inches of snow at the summit coming out rattlesnake road. It had to be around 10:30 am by then and the snow was falling pretty heavy. We knew there was going to be some rain/snow but, Sunday turned into a fun snow run

Saturday was fricken NICE up there - Went to the first river crossing, soaked up some sun. Went back to camp, started a fire, built a fire (with permit) chit chatted with some buddies then........

All hell broke loose over night.

Wind blew the tarp off my heep and it filled up with water, rain went through the tent I was in and soaked my sleeping bag and clothes but except for that it was a good trip :)

FYI water level on SAT wasnt too bad. :p
