Mother nature stopped us at about 4pm with a nice deep pool of water (4-5ft deep). We'll be back in a few weeks to attempt more of the trail when the water dries up, a monsoon season bypass is in the works.

Save some rocks for early spring... ;)

Bill4rest 11-04-2002, 10:56 AM Hey Chris,
What is the min tire size for a zuk for that trail? I'm also looking to buy tires soon but can't decide if I want 35's or 37's on my pretty much stock WB:confused:
elf_cruiser 11-04-2002, 11:07 AM oooohhhhh. Cool looking trail. Should I try it with no winch??

35's on a Zuk will get you thru, although your diffs will be polished (bling, bling). That new section was a b!tch. The stuff upstream is scary, after scouting it we were all talking bigger tires................
Chris Geiger 11-04-2002, 11:26 AM Count me in!

No way to get tugged in there, I wouldn't unless you can convince someone to be your recovery rig.

I'm shaving boths diff's regardless of the tire size........at least it would be a smooth polish, maybe I should chrome it 1st?:D
ghost dog 11-04-2002, 04:24 PM Chris those pics are making me salivate! Cant make it this year but will try and get down there for the 2nd annual next year. Laura and me are planning for Moab at Easter right now. We are talking of a road trip back to Az next year. The "Posse Shindig" sounds like a great incentive to get our asses back down there for some killer wheelin.
Peace,
Chance.

No. This trail is tougher than Asylum. All vehicles on this run will need to pass tech and have a min. equipment requirement.
Period.
There will be trails for all skill and equipment levels though, so everyone is welcome. :)
elf_cruiser 11-04-2002, 06:12 PM cool, no prob! I'll go give anaconda another run for it's money, and try some of the others i haven't done yet.
will be a great weekend!

LOTS OF FREE PARTS! :D
J/K You've been pre-teched. you're in......
See ya there.
sschaefer3 11-05-2002, 07:46 PM I was hopeing for something a little harder. :( That will hardly even give my IFS a workout. :p You guys are going to bring that portable generator right? I'll need to give the 4Runner a few fresh coats of Griots best of Show with the Porter Cable buffer. Nothing slides on rocks like streight sheet metal and Griots best of show. I should also have the pull out Crumpet/Scone table done by then.
What is the prefered Tea flavor? :blender:
All kidding aside are there any bunny runs out there like a woosie 3.5 or 4.0? That's my speed. :D

I prefer Earl Grey if you please. Also, brie on saltwater biscuts would be divine..............
Raw Deal would be O.K. for your "show queen". Elf cruiser only rolled on it once so you should do fine :D

nuttzack 11-06-2002, 06:55 PM I'm curious, so tell me, what kinds of things would fail a tech inspection?
Orionn 11-07-2002, 03:57 AM Looks like a great time to be had .....but no extra time left for Vacation this year.....besides the rig is not up to that level of rock crawling ....YET:rolleyes:
I might be there next year though......If I dont sink it again in a mud hole :D  :D
Right now I am having a hard time envisioning Moab next year....let alone the woosie stuff here and in Attica (badlands)
Have fun!!! :D

If you look at the trail ratings (http://www.azrockcrawler.com/_images/trailrating/trailrating.html) on my webpage you'll get a good idea of what we are looking for, also a working winch is mandatory. So far this trail is rated a 5, although I feel it is tougher than Asylum, there is no mondo crazy waterfall to climb (which is why I rated asylum one notch higher). If you don't pass inspection we'll tell you not to run the trail.

RE:Todd 11-14-2002, 07:50 PM How long are the trails compared to JV?? Couple hours or all day?? I assume we can access the trails from camp with non street legal rigs??
Mustard Dog 11-14-2002, 08:02 PM What's the camping situation? If I can pull this off I'll be bringing the RV;)
Todd and M-Dog,
Getting to the camp should be no problem for most motor homes. It is dirt road. I probably wouldn't take a new 70 ft diesel pusher in there. No worse than the road into JV. No services or hookups. We will be going out to trim a few trees that have grown over the road to prevent scratches on the motor homes. As for the trails, most are very short, half the length of JV trails, and can be gotten to from camp on some dirt roads. We have never had trouble with running buggys on them. A couple are longer or just plain brutal and will take much longer, especially with a large group.
Hope all the benders can make it.

Leaving Thursday afternoon, the 5th. 392 miles from my house to the freeway exit. I'll be headed out the 8 to Gila Bend though, won't hit the 10 until around the western end of Phoenix. You Phoenix guys, is there a loop around the west end that'll keep me out of downtown??

Yes, the 101 loop. Exit North off of I-10. then about 12 mi. later take I-17 north.
dasumax 11-22-2002, 12:52 PM Hey guys i should be able to make it also, just waiting on my engine. anyone else going up from tucson?
AZFord4x4 11-22-2002, 08:14 PM I'm trying for the Hammers on turkey day, & I'll try to be out there for this one too. I know my junk isn't ready for 6th Day yet, dunno if it ever will be, but if you guys need a hand with anything out there, let me know. I'm still unemployed & have a good bit of free time on my hands right now.
We need firewood donations! They can be dropped off iat Kong's if you can't haul it out to the party site.
AZFord4x4 11-23-2002, 04:49 PM I'll see if I can dig anything up...
Chris Geiger 11-23-2002, 05:21 PM Just to be sure does anyone have the GPS location?

what are you looking for on the tech inspection, how much harder is the trail further on than the part i ran when we made the bybass road a while back.
thanks MAtt

I love the 37's. The extra ground clearance is great. Tech inspection for the harder trails: Lockers/Gears/Ground Clearance/Spare parts/Winch. If you don't pass you can follow behind the main group. You ran the easiest part of the 6th Day :) If you start from the first entrance you hit a really good rock garden just before the second entrance (the one we went in on the time you came along). The stuff beyond that point is scary.

Overkiller 11-24-2002, 12:11 AM Is there room at the campground for a live band? I'm already comitted to my buddy's birthday party that weekend if there's room for a band, lighting, a few kegs, and plenty of partygoers perhaps I could convince him to relocate so we can do some kickass wheeling too.

We'll make room. Jack and I will be out there Thursday night, let us know how much room you need.
Overkiller 11-24-2002, 03:11 PM Sorry guys, I called my friend and he doesn't want to relocate the party. He's already got flyers made up:rolleyes:. So I guess I'm going to his birfday party instead. Hope all goes well.

Overkiller 11-24-2002, 11:34 PM Yeah sorry guys I hope I didn't get your hopes up. The band is called the Beer Bottle Rockets, they're pretty good just cover songs great for a party. They're playing my buddy's party on the 7th but they might be free friday. They have all the stuff to do outdoor shows. I'm not sure what they charge for an outdoor gig. I'm not trying to spam for them but if you guys are interested I can hook you up with them. Hope your event goes well. I might cruise up friday night to check out the campfire, I'd love to here the sorry of how Camo got into the glitter industry and see some mickey's gernades.

beyondhelp 11-26-2002, 01:30 PM I read on the post in the general forum that the campsite changed. I checked the details page (http://www.azrockcrawler.com/_images/2002/12-02azontherocks/12-02azontherocks.html) and It doesn't seem to have changed. Can someone pm or e-mail me directions to the new campsite? I'll be coming from Chandler but I can figure it out if someone can give me general info. I downloaded and printed the maps already.
Thanks!

Look again at the second map. Instead of taking a left at the first Y you are taking a right. Take a left at the next Y and o till you see all the vehicles. Easy, and a lot closer than the other campsite.
beyondhelp 11-27-2002, 06:26 AM Thanks! I didn't want to spend all night wandering around lost. Never been to Arizona before.

Ok I am still just a bit confused...
Looking at the map I see three flags, one says "Camp site", one is marked "2" and the last one marked "1"
Witch one is the camp site?
Explorer 12-04-2002, 08:34 PM Anyone up for a milder run on Friday? Say Rawdeal or Terminator??
AZFord4x4 12-04-2002, 08:38 PM Chris, not 100% on this, but I know the area...
the first 2 flags just seem to be marking the Y's in the road... They're very easy to spot, it is a semi-maintained dirt road, & you can't mistake the road for a "trail" through the desert. Even in the dark they're very obvious. To the best of my memory, those little branches off to the east from the road you see, you'll probably never see when you're there. I've never recognized anything going off to the east side as a "road" just desert trails, & I doubt you'll even notice them going down the road. If I make it out there Thursday night, which I'm not sure I will or not yet, I'll have my CB on... I guess Channel 4 will work unless Chris/Jack/whoever wants to pick something else... hopefully they'll read this & be on there also... just yell out on the radio & you should be able to reach one of us to come to your rescue. It's really easy though, you shouldn't have any problem finding the camp.
Matt
Chris Geiger 12-04-2002, 10:38 PM Thanks AZFORD that clears it up.
I am packed and ready to go right after work Thursday. I would also be up for a trail or two Friday to get warmed up for Saturday.
Azrckcrawler 12-05-2002, 05:33 AM Yes, the two flags marked #1 and #2 signify the 2 Y's. It's way easier than it sounds to find the place. I'll leave channel 4 on so give a hollar if you get totally lost.
Rick: I am going to bring some cardboard out to make signs. We'll just write Terminator on one and stick it on your windshield ;) I am sure you'll have some followers.

I know some people are running raw deal and some other trails on saturday. I would ecourage everyone to show up at the camp, meet everyone, and group up for runs. Runs probably shouldn't start before 10:00 am just so everyone can get there and have a chance to meet. From all of the people I have talked too, there will be a ton of vehicles of all levels, so everyone should be able to fit in on a run they feel comfortable on both days.
I may be late tonight, I have a ton of stuff to do at work, and still have to build a front driveshaft when I get home:(
