Im getting a custom built trailer made, final decision is today. The guy building it suggests that I get a 101" wide trailer. It is gonna be a flat bed with adjustable ramps, real simple but real stout.
Anyway, I laid a tape measure down by the tow rig (Dodge Cummins) and that just seems wide as hell!
Am I gonna be clipping oncomeing traffic?
(BTW 101"=8.5')
Muchos Gracias!
BTW, 102" is the legal limit in the Southeast.
Also, my truck is only 80 " outside of tires but my brothers is 90" with D60 and 44" TSLs. Ultimatly I wanna tun 44 inch boggers or TSLs with Rockwells.
You're not going to be any wider than the big rigs. The federal limit on width is 102". Most car haulers with a 7.5' wide deck are close to 100-102 at the edge of the fenders.
at 8'5 you'll be as wide as a semi, and they don't clip oncoming cars now do they??

Strucuture of the trailer cannot be more than 102" wide, and you have 3" on either side to allow for other things like lights and stake pockets.

Although you will probably never had a problem some roads are posted STAA which boils down to you can be over 96" wide and total of 60' long. The rest of the guys are right 102" is the limit , I am a fed. motor carrier officer
My trailer is 102" wide - definately takes some getting used to being that wide :p
My trailer is over 102" - used to be 102", but aftermarket rims stick out an extra inch on each side :( It definitely takes some finesse on tight roads, but I wouldn't go to a narrower trailer. While my Toy does not require anything nearly this wide (stock axles & Q78's on 7" rims), it's nice for other stuff like tractors, etc. And the deck is just the right size to lay a pair of haybales sideways across, so we can load the schit out of hay or straw. Legally, I believe you can run a 102" trailer anywhere within 20 miles of an Interstate (or so I've been told). Doubt anyone would ever hassle you elsewhere.

Thanks everyone! I went ahead and ordered the 101. (The builder dosent like to go 102 in case you do put rims or somehting on it in the future.)
Anyway, I got a beefy one. it is 18ft., 2x5200# axles, forget the tires but really high end good ones, subframe, d-rings, flat top, etc...
Only thing I couldnt afford is gooseneck, I ended up with a bumper pull. he did say bring it to him with 500 bucks anytime and he would convert it to a gooseneck.
I think Im gonna be happy, the builder has a reputation for heavy duty/ quality work.
Thanks for the advice, Ill post pics when I get the thing in about 7 days.
