: probably should have built a buggy
black4x4 11-07-2010, 03:39 PM So about a year ago i decided to buy a 93 xj for a budget wheeler it had a 3-4" lift welded rear and some 32" tsls. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v337/black4x4/158.jpg
it worked pretty good for being a cheap beater. then I started doing a little more and then it went to it coming home in this condition every trip.

So with me wanting to race in the trec series at the badlands next year something needed to change. The plan is to do some uni frame choppin and platin and also add
ford 60 with chromo shafts, ctms, orange knuckles, arb
14 bolt rear shaved detroit and disked
4link front if I can fit it, 4link rear
2.5" coilovers 14"frt/16"bk set up for decent up travel 2" airbumps
37" comp. trepadors on diy beadlocks
and will not have a jeep engine and tranny
Started with a roller xj at the beginning of the weekend and quit at this point tonight. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v337/black4x4/P1010056.jpg

keepviper13 11-08-2010, 10:52 AM Are you planning on building into the B class or the unlimited A class for Trec?
7 Trec races next year starting in April..... Not as far away as it seems when you're at the point you are now...

It wont. I mean anything is possible but this is not far from impossible.
The only way I seem doin this logically is with tringulating the uppers, in order to elimate the panhard. Ive looked into this pretty heavily and as I sit with around 8-8.5" of lift....I would still need to notch the oil pan. To avoid notching the oil pan I would either need more lift (never gonna happen) or I would need less triangulation in the uppers. The amount of triangulation at that point is NOT enought to eliminate the panhard. I built a 3 link.
Now you could set a 4 link up similar to a factory system but.........why??? At that point theres no significant advantages over a 3 link and you have to build an extra link and barckets.
37's and one tons arent gonna be the best of friends in the clearance department. You'll be ok, but expect to do some dragging. Make sure your shave job is up to par with the amount of scrapping you'll do therwise youll end up like Timmy.
Looks good and best of luck.
xj_man_646 11-14-2010, 09:50 AM Couldn't you run triangulated lowers and nearly parallel uppers? I'm pretty sure I've seen that.
PilotGuyZJ 11-14-2010, 10:19 AM thought you might like to see this. Was having a convo with adam from claytons about 4 link fronts. This is what he had to say.... soon to be for ZJ/XJ
Hello. Just wanted to give you some feedback since your talking about radius arms, 3 links and 4 link setups.
The 4 link front is still a prototype and we will see if everything fits. Our thinking is more for Jeep speed type racing. Where have 8 larger 2.5 forged johnny joints all with 9/16s grade 8 bolts holding the front end when racing though the dessert would be a good idea.

keepviper13 11-14-2010, 11:07 AM 4 link front is do-able with the 4.0L. Driver's side upper makes exhaust a bit interesting but it can work...
Built this one years ago with 4link front and it worked really well...

That being said, with a non 4.0L (ie V8) it will be extremely tight. I couldn't get even straight uppers to work on my grand with a 5.9L.
Are you doing full hydro?
black4x4 11-14-2010, 11:41 AM full hydro is the plan. Hopefully in the next week or two I'll have the engine so I can get going. also the engine will not be going in the stock location.
black4x4 12-26-2010, 05:47 PM so updates to this alot of the frame plating is now done along with the subframe is built and tacked in, and started cutting the firewall and floor.

black4x4 01-30-2011, 03:37 PM an update of what it looks like as of tonight.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v337/black4x4/031.jpg
I have the engine and tranny in place and have started seeing what the clearance will be for the links and it looks like I'll need to raise the engine about an 1" to get the up travel numbers I want with the triangulated 4 link up front. but other wise the front of the jeep is at full bump in the picture.
