Does anyone know if the supports on the inner firewall (in the engine bay) are really necessary???? I am very tempted to cut mine to make a cleaner engine compartment but.....

The only thing I can think of would be support for the brake booster mounting to stiffen the firewall in that area. As for the passenger side remove it unless you have a really strong heater fan;)

The firewall supports as in the ones I cut off to make room for a larger master cylinder?? :D I didn't completely remove mine, but I did clearance it quite a bit. However with my engine cage tied to the firewall and my cage inside tied to that, mine is a little stiffer than usual anyway.

That is kinda what I figured. What I am doing is removing the heater blower and instaling the premier in it's place :)

I planned on taking mine out all together. I have some plate that I am having bent in the same shape as the part that bends in for the foot panel. I should make the engine comp very clean looking and still have some strenght to it for the master cylinders.

I don't think you'll have a problem. At one point in my Cruisers life a section of that rib was removed so a battery could be mounted there;)

Don't forget your bonnet and boot :flipoff2:. I love the Haynes FJ40 manual, there is actually a page of about 80 words "translated" from British to American English & Vice versa, or hang out on the Rover list. Talk about pansies, though maybe 10% are British even the Americans call their fenders wings, and they consider a far superior Toyota part in their Rover a debauchery.:barf:

i have had trouble with the bracket that holds the clutch lever in my T100 cracking. I think if you remove the support from that area on a 40 the firewall will eventually crack. The heater side.....go for it!
