I haven't ever made it up for a winter run, so around what time of the year should we expect to see some snow on the the mountains up there??

Well we are planning on heading up there for another ride Nov 29th - Dec 1st, and a few of the people going are hoping for some snow.... at least on the mountain tops. I was just curious what our chances are... I know I will see some b/c I head up there Jan 2nd ;)

I found it "PERPOSED" rules

Should be good to go this winter.

Ya When I was up there last weekend, the owner of http://www.Tellicocabins.com Chuck was telling me that it had become a huge mess because they really wanted to close the trails this year but after talking with all the rental places and business they would have lost tons of money with out any notice, so they have decided that the closing will start next year.

So this means that I will be going back at least one more time this winter, since this is the last time I will get to do a winter, maybe snow run.

Live in NC all my life. Went to college at WCU, bout 1.5 hrs from Tellico. Seen it snow october up until may so you may get lucky. Most of the snow hits the mountains in Jan and Feb. Good luck!

Good luck hitting a snow ride in Tellico. It does snow in Tellico several times a year but it all depends on when you're up there. The earliest I have ever seen snow is Nov and the latest was in March, but it never stays around for too long. There is not a snow season in the SE like out west, it just snows sometimes hangs around for as few days then disappears. If you get lucky and catch some snow while you're up there great but don't plan a trip expecting to see snow. I was up there last Christmas fully expecting snow, lows in the 10-15 range and highs in the 30-35 range but no snow. Either way winter wheelin in Tellico is a ton of fun(read wet and sloppy) but just make sure your drivetrain is in top shape and your winch is working well. Have Fun

Yeah it's just like everywhere else this far south even tho it's in the mountains. You're not gonna get a blanket of snow that's gonna stay up there all winter. You'll get dustings here and there and maybe 1 or 2 good snows. We usually go between christmas and new years and I can't remember the last time I saw snow at that time.

Ditto on the snow not sticking around long in Tellico.

Also - be warned that you are more likely to see ICE storms come through - and that makes for NASTY trails, assuming you don't mind clearing downed trees every 20 ft.

Tellico is bad enough when it is wet, you would have to be :smokin: something to want to be up there during an ice storm.

Yeah its pretty different up there with ice on the trails. It makes the easy trails hard and the hard trails almost impossible. We did Slickrock early this year with a 1" of ice covering most of the rock. Everyone had to winch. No matter how much you spun the tires they just wouldn't get through to the rock.

Word of Advice: If you do Tellico in the ice be sure your seatcovers are firmly attached if not you may be in the ER getting them pulled outta your ass.
