Im hoping to find some pinion tubes for a set of 419s and Im not sure but thought I read here that some tubes will fit from other certain mog axles like 406s..?

Anyway Im looking to make or buy conversions, but to make them I need some tubes. Any input or information would be great. Thanks

p.s never thought I'd be posting in "Mercedes" hehe .. lol
so far I really like these axles:D

Ahh ! thanks guys! Giving them a call today.

Yeah Im still stoked about these. Going to be flippin and cutting one of them for rear steer soon but have to make sure I have all the parts before going to the trouble.:p

Flipping and cutting what?

Flipping and cutting what?

One of the alxes I have taken apart for making a rear steer. Cutting the tubes for rotation. Yeah fun fun:shaking:

You can just run the front axle in the rear...no need to cut or do anything else.

As a matter of fact they use the same center section. If you look at it when in the front application it runs on the coast side of the gear...when you put the front axle in the rear it'll run on the drive side.

I hope you haven't cut anything up yet.

I really dont want to cut and turn the tubes. Running on the coast side is not going to hurt the gears? I dont think they are "straight" cut gear tooth.

So, does this mean you need to cut and turn the front to run on the drive side?

No.
You do not need to do anything. MB runs the same diff front and rear... and from the factory the front diff is driven on what would be the coast side if it were installed in the rear. Putting the front diff in the rear means that it will be driven on the drive side. I think the way these Diffs are designed there really isn't a 'coast' or 'drive' side in the same way other axles are designed.
To the best of my knowledge all the three piece mog axles (406:416:419...) have straight cut portal gears so they don't need to be swapped either. All you need to do to get rear stear is put a steering axle (front axle) in the rear.

Pretty cool huh?

I wouldn't mess with it either.

If it was good enough for Mercedes it's good enough for my rock crawler.

Well guys thanks for the input. The main concern was the the ring and pinion gears.

I dont think Ive seen anyone use a front mog axle moved to rear without making all the mods to the tubes and such and wasnt sure if Mercedes had rear steer vehicles. But there again Im totally new to the Mog world,,,!:D

Ok guys .. upon closer look tonite at the shop, it seems the ring and pinion gears have symetrical angles on both sides of each tooth. This means, at least to me in theory, there is no coast side or drivers side drive on the gears.

So the plan is to not cut and turn anything and continue cleaning these things up.

One last thing, so when mentioned, " they use the same center section" your talkin about a normal rear axle. .. yeah well ofcourse that makes perfect sense!!

These things are full of surprises

Made lots of phone calls... same ole thing. No we dont have em.

I do have two friends from Germany (speak German ..) so unless I can get them here , I'll have them make some calls..:shaking:

Im thinking of machining some but it would make things easier if I had one to look at.

Got on Mogexchange.. some help but the language barrier..

I don't think you are going to find a readymade pinion flange adapter but if you hunt around in this mercedes section there is a fairly recent thread by a guy who was making some himself. You might be able to contact him about making more or maybe get just some dimensions.
