its for "higher clearance" and to look cool on your mall crawler
or
in my experience you dont even need bent arms.
what doesnt hit the arm will hit your x member so who cares, plus .250 wall arms are difficult to bend especially at slow speeds so all a normal arm is going to do is act like a rock slider where the bent arm might clear a rock in some cases.

people might be a bit more to you if you put this in the newbie section and delete this thread ;)

Yeah...I have a friend who's been having problems with bending 2" .250 wall arms under a 3500lb truck. I don't like rock krawler, but I'm a fan of the bent arms. The clearance is nice, as I hammer the shit out of my claytons arms.

Here's TnT's on the white Grand I'm building.

Yeah...I have a friend who's been having problems with bending 2" .250 wall arms under a 3500lb truck. [/img]I've built and sold quite a few LA' Kits using 2"x.250 wall D.O.M and no one has bent an arm yet. XJSeth has a set and hammers on it pretty hard. He contacted me once and said he thought he had bent an arm. Turns out he only sctrached some paint off of it.:D

Pics of these bent arms you speak of and some info about how it happened please.

I know a few people who have bent Clayton's 2x2x.250" box arms.

Granted, they have no regard for anything

Don't have many pics of that truck, and we honestly don't know when it happened. Both .250 wall lowers are bent on a bronco 2 with a ~95" wheelbase (guess), and 35" krawlers. It's a radius arm setup, and the bends are VERY visible.

On the other hand, my 2x2x.250" square Claytons lowers have yet to bend under my 5300lb WJ.

Though I did bend the 1.25" stud of a Johnny joint. The nut was tight when it happened

Hmmmm,
Were they DIY or purchased from the aftermarket? I'd suggest cutting them in half and confirming the wall thickness.

Sounds a bit fishy, not you, just the fact that he's bending .250" wall tube with a relatively light rig.

As stated, the bent arms are for clearance. I had a TNT radius arm setup and it worked very well. I liked how the arms were mounted between the frame rails too. Nothing to hit but the massive belly pan tey give you.

See, nothing to get hung up on

i was thinkin they did it so those runnning more offset wheels could turn lock to lock and not hit the arms,,i now i had that prob...

i had that issue too with straight arms, but mounting could have something to do with that too. mine were not tucked between the frame rails. This was on a ZJ.

I never had problems with that on mine, but I had the bent arms and a waggy D44 so some extra width too.

I know its just a radius arm setup and not all fancy and cool like a 3link or anything, but it actually wroked really well for me.
