I went to try out my new suspension lift and tires on the TJ yesterday. I went to a local area called Winchester Creek OHV area. I started driving down the road and got within a mile of my favorite spot and found three big tank traps on the gravel portion of the road. I decided to go try a different spot still within the ohv area same story only this time they dug a big deep ditch on the other side of the tank trap. The only thing is they left an area just wide enough for a small quad or a dirt bike to go through. It was obvious that they were going through their to. So I turned around and tried a couple of different area's, same story all set-up for quads and dirt bikes. This is all county forest land.
Today I called the county forestry office and asked what the deal was why all of my 4x4 spots were closed. They said the main gravel road had been re routed because they were installing a fish friendly culvert and they were making all there roads run across the top of mountains so that the streams wouldnt be affected. I asked him if the other trails were still open. He said the other trails are all ment for quad and dirt bike use only. Any other rigs would be trespassing! I asked how come quads and bikes were allowed and not 4x4's. He said basically because the envirmentalists cause to many problems and that the 4x4's cause problems with erosion into the streams..................So I asked him about another area known as Blue ridge OHV. He said same story. I asked if there was anywhere I could legally drive my Jeep that was not a paved or graveled road. He said not really most of the timber companies outlawed 4x4's as well for the same reasons.
I am about ready to give up on 4x4ing with the exception of the sand dunes I cant find a friggin place to wheel. I am a cop so I can't get caught trespassing. I have a friend who has always driven his samurai down a dirt road to get to a fishing hole with his kids. He recently got a criminal trespass ticket when the timber company set-up a motion sensing camera that took pictures of him driving over the road.
