: Introducing MONSTALINER™ UV Permanent DIY Roll-On Bed Liner
magnetman 11-20-2010, 03:44 PM Hello to all!
We are a new vendor on Pirate4x4 and I just want to introduce myself, our company and our products.
My name is Eric and I have 25+ years experience in coatings manufacturing. Our company Magnet Paints, is focused on industrial
maintenance and commercial fleet refinish coatings, epoxy and urethane concrete floor coatings and automotive restoration paints.
We are also the manufacturers of Chassis Saver™ Rust Preventive Truck & Auto Underbody Coating.
Chassis Saver is a high performance alternate to POR-15 at 45% lower cost.
Now on to MONSTALINER™
For the past 5 years, our lab has been developing and fine tuning a roll-on DIY bed liner. Monstaliner™ has evolved
through 4 generations of testing and field trials and in October 2009 the product was commercialized for sale.
I have personally been involved with installations on more than 25 vehicles in the last 5 years in which
my feedback and experience alone was the determining factor that the product was complete and ready for release.
Monstaliner started as a pet project. One of our employees had used a widely popular DIY bed liner on his
personal vehicle and was not so pleased with the outcome. He came into work one day with a mission and
for almost a year, he kept badgering the chemists in our lab to develop a better product.
One day after getting tired of listening to this guy rant, we sat down and mapped out what a
new generation do-it-yourself bed liner would have to offer to be successful. A first, we just toyed with the
project but we knew that a much better product was possible compared to those already on the market.
So here we are, very proud to present:
MONSTALINER™ High Performance DIY Roll On Bed Liner
I'm not going to write a book here so I will post web site links for those who are curious to check this out on their own time.
We have very good reputation on the web for our technical support and attention to customer needs.
Just search MONSTALINER from any search engine and you'll find interesting reading.
So please feel free to ask questions. I am always available to help.
Best Regards,
MagnetMan

Kind of backwards, but the pictures are more than a year old. Overall, great experience working with MagnetMan and his products. Great customer service already around and great products. I still remembered when I asked for him to resend the tracking number. He gave it to me, but also said that I didn't need it since the box was waiting in front of my garage. That was the same day it shipped out from their warehouse. It might have something to do with the fact that I live about 2 - 3 hours away from Amettyville.
Edit: MagnetMan, you should change 5 years to 6 now ;)
nsscout 12-07-2010, 04:51 AM interested in the chassis saver (will wait till spring to do this...its to cold outside now). do you think a quart would be enough to do the frame and maybe axles on my 2500?

That's a Dodge or Ram pickup?
If so 1 quart is not enough. Probably need 2.5 to 3 qts. May be best to get a gallon
Thanks on the Monstaliner. Not much action here on this. Decent traffic checking out our website though. But it's winter and Holidays coming.
I'm here if anyone has questions or want's to grill me.

Thanks Luckrider. It feels like my whole life I've been working on this product.
jpfrk2001 12-07-2010, 05:24 AM Interested! I need enough liner to do my longbed dodge truck. Would one gallon be enough? Is the MEK used for cleaning/prepping surface? Include that as well.
Shipping to 31326?
Looks like an awsome product.

Looks like an awsome product.
1 gallon is really just enough to do a Wrangler tub or a 6ft bed with 2 coats.
I don't rec trying to stretch it further. If you get the 2 gal kit you can get a 3rd coat on bed surface and tail gate. I'll give you a few extra rollers.
Yes MEK to clean but we don't sell MEK to ship (yet) I'm thinking about it being too flammable.
The Monstaliner does not carry a RED label so there's no hassle shipping it
Check Home Depot or Lowes for MEK
So the 2 Gal kit is $239, we ship free and we include 1 free quart Chassis Saver worth $34.75, your choice on color
the freeak 12-08-2010, 06:14 PM Does this do anything to reduce noise?
CJHeap 12-09-2010, 06:38 AM can this be sprayed with an undercoating gun?
magnetman 12-09-2010, 10:11 AM Does this do anything to reduce noise?
Anything you add to a bed or tub will do something to deaden sound or at least change the way it sounds. How much is all relative to how thick the coating is.
So the answer is yes, some but I don't think it will be that dramatic or a night & day difference.
magnetman 12-09-2010, 10:12 AM can this be sprayed with an undercoating gun?
Absolutely, yes. It needs to be reduced for spray with approx 20 ounces of MEK per gallon of mixed coating.

With my 2004, the radio doesn't have volume numbers. With my last Jeep, the 2005 it did. I don't remember the exact numbers but I think I quantified a noise drop of about 20% in my Wrangler based on the comfortable listening volume at various speeds in matching conditions.

How hard is the Monstaliner to remove if I change my mind later, or for repairs to the base metal. Would it stick to wood.. like an old stepside truck bed?
magnetman 01-29-2011, 01:47 PM How hard is the Monstaliner to remove if I change my mind later, or for repairs to the base metal. Would it stick to wood.. like an old stepside truck bed?
It's pretty tough but not impossible to remove. 2 heavy coats of paint remover covered with plastic has removed it. It's hard to sandblast. Grinding will remove it.
No problem on wood. Need to seal surfaces first with a clear polyurethane (Minwax type) or Chassis Saver works real well as a wood sealer. Reason for this is to save coating from penetrating and forcing the need for additional coats.
Monstaliner is still a "paint" type coating just with highly manipulated viscosity to enable getting texture without filling it with gritty particle matter like crumb rubber or abrasives.
roarksupply.com 01-31-2011, 06:43 AM I like the looks of this stuff. I wish this was around 5 years ago .
I put the El Cheapo gallon in my CJ and the wheel well tops are starting to peal:( And I have a hard top, stored indoors so it doesn't see a ton of sun.
Your probly getting three times the quantity and five times the quality using the Monstaliner. And it just shows up, you don't have to leave your house!

Yes, we have quarts in stock now. Catalyst is in a cool foil pouch.
Should be listed for sale on the website this week.
I'm waiting also for a small foam roller that we'll be selling.

Sweet, I'd love to try that on my bumper. The aerosol bed liner I used on my rear bumper and flares is really thin (bad on the steel) and not very flexible (bad on the plastic) so I'd like to use something else on my new front bumper.

ssyork 02-02-2011, 09:04 AM What color are you thinking of?
Was thinking either an old chevy orange, or a gray. From what I understand from other companies the gray's don't hold their color over time very well, they start going yellowish. I also didn't want to go black or very dark just so it doesn't hold the heat inside the cab during the summer and also doesn't darken it up.

The yellowing you might experience from any gray polymer coating is an indication that it is not UV stable. The terms "aromatic" vs "aliphatic" are used to describe coatings that are either non-uv stable or uv stable. 1st generation Rhino Linings were aromatic. Something like Herculiner is aromatic which is why it fades in sunlight. Monstaliner is aliphatic and you will not see color change, chalking or fading.
ssyork 02-02-2011, 06:04 PM Boss says we want orange! Thanks for the good info though. As soon as its ready you have an orange kit sold. Think 1 gallon is enough to do the inside of a s10 blazer, 4 door, up about 1' on sides and the whole box and tailgate area. Figured only one coat under seats including rear bench. Thanks for your time.

Thanks! So, I got some area that is painted and some bare rust free metal that I'm gonna be putting this over. Should I first lay down some primer over the bare metal, scuff, clean than coat it with the monstaliner? should I use the chassic coat on the bare metal? or should I just monstaliner it and not worry about the bare metal? Just wanna make sure I get the best possible finished product..
Luckrider 02-07-2011, 08:37 AM You need to put down a primer of some form on the bare metal to give the liner something to adhere to. If you have some self etching primer, that is fine. If you want to use the chassis saver, scuff with 60 or 80 grit and IIRC, you can line between 24 and 48 hours after putting down the last coat of chassis saver without having to sand it.

We're working now to complete the formula we will use to tint colors. Tan is top of our list along with OD Green and a bunch of other colors to match Jeep interiors.
I'll have an update next week and hopefully I can give some tighter time frame for availability. Should not be that much longer.
If you have any questions about spraying feel free to ask. We have some Schutz undercoating guns we will be selling as well.
Photos are always welcome and encouraged. Will be doing a major update to Monstaliner.com soon that will include hundreds of new photos from all over the country.
Thanks everyone for the interest!

Yep, it took 6 years to make it perfect and the fun started last February.
This should be an interesting year.

'05TJLWBRUBY 02-11-2011, 01:00 AM So how much would be needed and a quote shipped to 98802 for doing an LJ interior? Same for my trailer?
Here is my trailer build thread:
http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=818289
The box is roughly 72" inside length x 50" inside width x 32" inside depth (plus doors) how much would be needed for the trailer?
Could you send a quote for Jeep only and trailer plus Jeep? Why don't you add a few extra rollers too as it's a lot of surface to cover-let me know what the extra rollers will cost. I assume I can't pick them up just anywhere local? Do you have a silver color by chance? Jeep is silver, and for the new business, Jeep/trailer will be painted to match. If you have silver, would be neat to do both to match. If not, standard black will work as well. Seen you both here and JF. Not on ROF-Yet... :D Feel free to PM if you like, or email at mike.mundinger@nwi.net
Best of Luck,

ssyork 02-13-2011, 06:32 PM The boss gave me the green light to order an orange kit to do the inside of the blazer. :grinpimp: So post it up or shoot me a pm when they are ready to roll. Thanks

'05TJLWBRUBY 02-14-2011, 12:35 AM Still waiting on cost and a few questions to be answered. I understand he's busy with recent work issue/advertising stuff, so hopefully will have a response tomorrow. More than likely will be ordering this to do both the Jeep and the trailer build both. I'm over-budget on a few other things and Line-X is now out of the equation-unless I do ONLY the trailer. Need to be up and going here by March 1st if at all possible, so may have to wait on the Jeep, not sure yet. Have 4 days off starting Thurs so would be GREAT to have something here to start on, and be able to allow a day or two "cure" time. Otherwise no-go due to my main job and hectic work schedule.
Have no idea what the "chassis saver" stuff is-is it a final coat for undercarriage or does it require a top coat too of something else? Guess I better go back to the site and research a bit more... Don't think I need it, but could be wrong.
Glad to hear you're happy with this stuff. I've used some of the others for years. Line-X has been top notch, but you pay for that. Interested to know about long-term hold up with heavy use. Either way, I have to do something very soon.
Best of Luck,
Mike

OK, I'm back. Very sorry for the delay.
Jeep tub alone requires 1 Gallon Kit of Monstaliner @ $134 (includes 2 rollers), extra rollers are $2.87 each. Shipping is free and you get 1 free quart of Chassis Saver. See promo details here:
http://www.magnetpaints.com/Monstaliner/pirate4x4_promo.htm
Silver is not available yet.
I checked out the trailer build. Very nice work! We figure that 1 Gallon of liner goes about 60 sq ft in 2 coats. Your dimensions of 72 x 50 x 32 on the inside woks out at 79.2 square feet compared to a Jeep tub which is approx 60 sq feet. So the trailer needs about 1.5 gallons.
Chassis Saver is mainly for application over existing rusty surfaces. Frames, floor boards, etc. It does not stick well to new smooth bare metal without really roughing up surfaces with coarse (50 - 60 grit) or by coarse sandblasting. Wire wheeling is not good enough. I would recommend using some 2K epoxy primer on this trailer to avoid all the surface prep.
I know you said you want to start this right away like Thursday and we ship from New York which means time is not on your side here.
Call me on my cell when you get some time today and I'll go over any additional questions you may have. If I don't pick up just lv msg and I will call you back.

ATVracer76 02-14-2011, 11:36 AM Ok, I got my kit and now I am getting ready to apply it. I do have one concern though.. I have some areas I put some seamsealer on and the monstaliner will stick to that? I can scuff it when its dry to help make the liner stick if needed... thanks!
Luckrider 02-14-2011, 11:43 AM What kind of seam sealer is it? I know it sticks perfectly to the factory seam sealer that is in TJs. All you have to do is clean it really well and scuff it some.

It is a 3m brushable seamsealer.. I cut and folded the bottom rear portion of the rear quarterpanel of a jeep cherokee and am going to apply monstaliner over that. Where it was folded up and welded I put some in those seams... I will scuff it before I apply the liner and remove any excess sealer I got in the areas of concern.. Thanks again!

As far as I know most automotive seam sealers should pose no concern. The package it came in certainly should say that it is paintable. The scuffing should ensure good adhesion.

magnetman 02-14-2011, 10:23 PM How much do you reckon I would need for my quarter panels, flares, and front/rear bumpers on an 09 tacoma regular cab? Any sort of warranty against fading?
I would just get a gallon to do this. You'll likely have 1-1/2 quarts left over so maybe find something else to coat or just do a 3rd coat on the bumpers.
What's on the bumpers now?
Regarding UV stability: Monstaliner is an aliphatic 2K moisture cure urethane. The chemistry is such that it won't fade. It's no different than an automotive paint in regards to color stability and longevity of appearance.
r08ert209cali 02-15-2011, 12:48 AM Since your colored liner has been coming out in two weeks since 2009 how hard is it to get paint to stick to black? And how much for a spray gun. Certain parts of my jeep tub will need to be painted tan. Will be using omni single stage paint.
Used your chassis saver black on my floor this weekend that shit rocks. 1 quart goes a long ways and i could not stop painting stuff. Looks like it is going to be a while before it gets off my skin lol.
Ready to order........

I've got your basic rattle can black paint on the bumpers. I guess I would need a basic scuff on the bumpers and rockers for it to adhere?

Sorry for the delayed response. Need to be careful putting Monstaliner over spray paint. The solvent in the liner may lift rattle can stuff.
With a clean white rag, try rubbing some mineral spirits on the spray paint. Rub hard in a small circle and see if paint comes off on the rag. Let me know what happens.

Sorry I missed this post. I know about the 2 weeks and it's been the longest 2 weeks of my life.
You can paint over Monstaliner. I would let it cure for 1 day and do a light scuffing with a scotchbrite pad. Cheap undercoat gun is $12 - 15. The good one we have is $37
How ready are you?
Looking for a price on your quart kit...thanks.
magnetman 02-21-2011, 09:43 AM Looking for a price on your quart kit...thanks.
Quarts are $42
2 Quarts are $39.90 ea
4 Quarts $37.80 ea
For now we will include this 2" wide roller and foam with the quart purchase. These rollers will not be in stock for about 1 week to 10 days.
We have the 4" roller now.
This roller has been the delay in getting the quarts listed. The 4" roller is too big for some small jobs.

already ordered from roarksupply.com was getting some flap wheels from him and seen he sold monstaliner so I added it to the cart as well. ordered 1 gal kit from him. Just got another Jeep last weekend so I will be needing more soon.
pm me so I can order one of your $37 dollar guns.
ATVracer76 02-22-2011, 03:43 PM so, i got my liner installed and its looking great... ive been taking pics of it.. should of got a 2 gallon kit tho. getting ready to order another gallon.. would i just want to scuff the already applied and cured monstaliner if i want to apply more on top of it? also, can i use the promo codes again? thanks!
Luckrider 02-22-2011, 03:49 PM Yes, you can scuff and M.E.K. the liner and it will adhere perfectly to itself. As for the promo, it should still work. I haven't looked though, MagnetMan?
Also, post pics. It would be great to see how it turned out.
plug ugly 02-22-2011, 04:31 PM whats this stuff like when it dries? is it real rough like some of the cheaper roll ons (durabak?) or smoother like some of the more puopular spray on hot coatings?
Luckrider 02-22-2011, 04:37 PM You can order a sample panel. It is not rough at all becasue it has no rubber crumb (where other DIY liners get their grit). It gets its texture from the roller.
You can order a sample panel here: http://www.magnetpaints.com/Monstaliner/forms/monstaliner_rfi.htm

Yes the promo codes will still work. If you still have your roller handle you can save a few dollars and get the "coating only" gallon kit and order foam rollers seperate. deal still comes with free qt Chassis Saver and free ship

It like a very pronounced orange skin. very bumpy but not rough at all

But my dumba** was trying to get the chassic saver and didn't put in my cart so I couldn't use the code... So if ya wanna hook me up great, and if not, its cool... Its my fault anyway.. I was just in a hurry while I was at home before I left for work.. Do you think I will get it by friday? That's fine, I was just hoping it would be here because I can't apply the liner in my shop during the week.. Its gotta be done on the weekend because of the smell... It tends to linger.. Lol.
Thanks for the hookup man! You got yourself some great customer service! I will be posting some pics of the cargo area here in the next day or so... Thanks again!!

X2 on this. I guess I should note all my stuff showed up a few days ago, but is sitting in the shop still in the boxes. I'm concerned with the quantity needed to do the Jeep alone so will wait till the trailer is ready then do both at once. Pics will follow when done of course.
Thanks again for the excellent customer service, as well as the recent emails after. Will be in touch if I have questions once I start.
Best of luck,

Very sorry for the lapse in communication. Have been dealing with some personal issues for a few days. All is good.
Monstaliner is not slated for application direct to metal even if sandblasted. Need a primer here. I would recommend a 2K epoxy primer of either industrial or automotive grade. Let me know if you need help finding something.
A good oil base primer like Rustoleum in a can (not spray) can also be used by allowing 72 hrs minimum cure and then bedliner.
Have seen and felt Lizardskin but have never tested Monstaliner over it. There is no reason for it not to work. Only concern is that the LizSkin is somewhat soft for a while and may dent easily on a walkable surface if that's what you intend to do with it.
All I'm going to say on colors is: very soon, I should have an announcement this week.

magnetman 03-11-2011, 07:15 AM any progress on colors?
Next week we will be able to establish a release date. It will be this month.
magnetman 03-16-2011, 08:57 PM Colors in 2 - 3 weeks. We finished our lab work and are preparing to make some small production batches of 50 to 100 gallons of tintable material.
Initial color development will be focused on the high demand items. Here's a short list:
OD Green
Sand Beige/Khaki/Tan
Jeep Spice
A few Grays, light & dark
Reds
WHITE!
Dark Blue
Dark Green
Brown
Oranges and Yellows will also be developed but they will take a short bit longer. It's more of a challenge to make these because they don't cover/hide well and you don't want to be messing with 3 or 4 coats to cover.
If you don't see the color you want listed here and it is not a crazy, oddball, low demand color (Purple, pink, etc) just let me know.
More updates as the work continues...
'05TJLWBRUBY 03-17-2011, 12:50 AM I'm changing the direction of my trailer which should mean I can finish it sooner than later. Thinking the 3 gallons I have should do the entire inside and HOPEFULLY be enough to do the entire bottom side and fenders as well with a good coating. That leaves the Jeep bare, which would mean if the color works out, I'd definitely be interested in a silver/light grey color for the Jeep-it's an LJ so I forget what you said on how much over a gallon that would take.
Do you expect the colored version to be as strong or hold up as well to abuse as the regular black does? May seem like a dumb question but I've seen other items that when tinted/colored, aren't as strong/durable. Not sure why but curious if that would have any effect with this stuff or not. I can do the Jeep black as well, just a little nicer and cleaner if done to match.
Thanks for the update.
Best of Luck,
Mike

rickyj 04-03-2011, 12:18 AM Hey MagnetMan, I installed Monstaliner in my JK a few weeks ago - looks good but the smell is still horrendous. I read somewhere that to lay down another coat I should wait until it is fully cured. Do I have to wait until all the smell is gone then? I still have a full gallon left since it only took one gallon to do the tub, but I wanted to go thick instead of wasting a full gallon. Also, my rollers kinda dissolved (little foam chunks) when I was rolling out the first coat. I think I have read there were some roller problems where the roller dissolved, I have had my kit for a while. Anyway you could hook me up with some new ones?
Thanks.

Ahh... the smell of protection. Keep the doors or windows open if possible to help get rid of it a little faster. I had it in my Jeep for a little while. If it has been a few weeks, you will be plenty fine with lining again. IDK what kind of Jeep you have, but I wonder if you got both coats on. If so, your protection should be fine.
I believe there was a problem with some foam rollers sourced from Mexico. The issue has been resolved. DO NOT attempt to make them last longer than they should. When you see the edges start to shrink it, it is time to ditch it and hit up another one. I found that out the hard way. A sharp pocket knife should be able to cut them out when the liner is still in the process of fully curing, but I think you might need to take a grinder and lightly (Very Carefully) smooth it down and make it flush.
Good Luck with the product and post some pics of your project :jeep:
Luckrider 04-03-2011, 01:16 AM Oh... reading names should be a must for me.... Something seemed too familiar.
What kind of game are you playing here? You got banned from JeepForm somewhere around 2 days ago after a bunch of people (very satisfied customers I might add) jumped on you for starting trouble. You know you had no problems with Monstaliner as you clearly stated yourself that you were happy with the product. The only issue you has was in your got a little anal about not getting a response asking for a test that is clearly not realistic.
I myself have had this installed in two TJs that have the 42rle which is the hottest Jeep transmission that I know of. Seriously, I have not had problems with heat. Both were DDed about 1 hour each way 5 days a week. These roads had everything from stop and go to sustained speed. The human body starts to feel pain from heat at about 130 degrees, and trust me, you CANNOT touch the trans tunnel on my Jeep after or during driving. As far as long periods of heat go, my TJs gt driven way more than they should. 3+ hour drives one way, 1.5 hour mountain highway climbs (with acceleration and engine braking on said climbs). If I had an IR temp gun, I would get real #s for you, but I have never had issues with heat or the softening of the liner which you mentioned after your oven test.

I managed to pick out the small bits when they came off, it is a 4 door JK - so fortunately I was able to reach in and get the bits and pieces out before it cured at all since every area is 3' away from a door - but it was a pain in the butt. Don't know how I woulda done that with a truck bed - but since I don't have a truck bed, no big deal.
The smell is dissipating, but damn - for a while there.....thought I was gonna have to walk. Running no top, windows down now - but it still creeps up at the stoplights. Worth dealing with it for a while though. My wife wants me to throw the other gallon away, just so she never has to smell it again. I would hate to throw $120 of product down the drain, so looking to run a second coat, or I guess 3rd and 4th coat.
Looks great so far. I will post pictures after the 3rd and 4th coat, assuming I can get some rollers. Do you know if there is a close approximation roller that I can at Home Depot or something? Don't really want to pay shipping, and the last rollers sucked so buying them is questionable. I did the first (and second) coats under the rails, 3rd and 4th probably going to go over.
And LuckRider, I know the name. Your full documentation thread was a big reason I decided to run Monstaliner. A little off topic in a vendor thread, but the noise level is already down. Picking a jeep as a quiet vehicle probably not the smartest thing, but it has worked out great. 1 full layer of second skin in all the doors inside and outside skins, 1/2 second additional layer all doors. 1 layer second skin in the rear wheel wells, followed by bed liner and about 1/4" undercoat. Now with 40 or so mills of Monstaliner in there it is even quieter. I can run 15 on the REQ JK radio at 65 no top, no carpet, and hear fine.

Is there a problem with my screen name?
And I don't have a problem with any heat. I had a problem with rollers coming apart, and wondering how long to wait for a recoat.

Good to hear you are happy with the product still. I am glad that you were able to get something out of that thread. I think I did a great job in documenting that work that I did. I was really proud of the results. Honestly, there is nothing that comes close to the real rollers. I picked up a wall paper paste roller from HD to lay the first coat on my second Jeep, and thew it away after rolling about 10" of the liner.
Edit: Nothing wrong with your name at all, just the attitude in the other forum. I am glad you calmed down a bit and aren't being so argumentative.

Not yet but we ship this to Canada every week by UPS ground with no issues.
Monstaliner is combustible vs flammable which carries red label restrictions

What I'm going to ask from people is to mail me an SASE with their address and the name of color written outside the return envelope so we can just stuff it and send.
Is that reasonable to ask of people?
plug ugly 04-05-2011, 06:25 PM what about a high res pic on your site?
magnetman 04-05-2011, 07:12 PM what about a high res pic on your site?
Will definitely be doing that. Some people are just going to want to see colors in person depending on the project. Lighting will be important to get things to look reasonably true on screen.
I'm going to wind up sending them out to people anyhow in the beginning because I want to get feedback. Requests will get overwhelming eventually.
Thinking of a color chart for the future. 1 real chip shows texture and simulations of all colors available

Cool! looking forward to hear about and maybe see your results. take photos perhaps??
Note that you should be priming any bare steel before Monstaliner.
We prefer 2K epoxy primer but a good quality industrial oil base metal primer will work too. Paint can stuff, not spray cans. Allow 72 hrs dry time with oil base primer
Avoid self etch primers until we test specific brands

ssyork 04-15-2011, 09:13 AM What kind/shade of orange are you looking for?
Something like a burnt/rust bright orange. I really am not that picky, just don't want black. something like these. I understand these are anodized so they look a little different than a flat color would. Thanks

OK, we're working on this aside of regular colors. Problem with oranges and yellows is that they have poor opacity and sometime require extra coats to get coverage. Since the automotive industry stopped using lead based pigments to make Y & O colors everything needs 4/5 coats unless you go over a white primer.
Dirtier oranges/yellows cover better than bright shades. We still use lead pigments for industrial stuff like John Deere, Komatsu, etc. construction colors. Trying to make Monstaliner lead free all around.
What are you planning to use this on and what will surface be like before applying Monstaliner?
Edit: Quick test on orange done today. This is lead free. 1st coat doesn't cover that well, kind of transparent but 2 coats looks pretty damn good.
Coming closer to that anodized photo is possible

Is that impact orange? im waiting to order some in that color to pull my carpet and coat the jeep. have you had anyone spray on something like lizard skin to before applying mostaliner to cut down on noise a bit more? and also what is the maximum thickness you suggest for monstaliner?
torquefreak 04-19-2011, 09:07 AM I have an 18' aluminum bass boat and I would like to put this on the floor in a tan color. How much do you think I would need? 4 gallons?
Would it get slippery when wet?
Thanks,

Luckrider 04-19-2011, 04:37 PM What is it going on (material)? If it is straight aluminum, you will need to add primer. The liner gets a little slippery when wet, kind of like paint. There is still some tack though. Order up a sample panel and you can see what I mean.
MagnetMan, it was great to come down and visit. Well worth the 3.5 hour ride back thanks to the stupid traffic. We ended up in NYC and that was some fun traffic to play in (not!).

Hi, sorry for the delay. Can you give me some approx square footage and I'll help figure what you need.
For a walkable surface that gets wet we have a clear aggregate material that will help. The way I would use it is to broadcast the material into the 1st wet coat and then coat over it with 2nd coat.
magnetman 04-24-2011, 07:32 PM Very interested in the shades of gray that you are coming out with. I will probably be ordering soon if one of the grays match what i am looking for.
We have 2 gray samples done so far. A dark gray that matches a 98 Jeep interior and a light gray called "light quartz" that matches 95 Jeep interior color.
Grays I feel are going to be the most difficult color to satisfy with since there can be literally hundreds of variations with the same depth or darkness.
Can you tell me what this gray is from?
This is what we did on Friday.
The color just to the right of white is silver which is a little weird when rolled as it comes up almost 2 tone.
From the left on top: Safety/Massey Ferg Red, Jeep Spice, OD Green, Desert Sand
Bottom: White, silver, Dk Gray, Light Quartz

You can coarse up the bare add-ons and scuff all the existing paint then brush or spray some silver Chassis Saver. Then just put the Monstaliner over that.
No difference if you are spraying. Just reduce the Monstaliner with 8 - 12 oz MEK per gallon to spray.
Need a regular spray gun if you want to shoot the Chas Saver

Been asked this before and I said no mainly because we have not tried it and then my gut tells me it won't stick to the foil.
Someone asked recently about lining over carpet. I never got back to them.
Roll a coat of Chassis Saver over the carpet to seal and harden it and then put bedliner over it?
Probably never get the carpet out then

jolane 05-18-2011, 09:39 AM I've been looking into coating the top of my bumper with textured bedliner for traction/durability. I like the fact that you can roll this on, and do it at home. Until I saw this thread, I was looking into Al's Liner.
Can you explain some differences/advantages between your product and Al's?
Also, I'm not sure I want my whole bumper coated with this, or at least not with texture. Would it be better to do the whole bumper and then reroll just the top for texture, or is there a better way (maybe let the whole thing dry and then recoat just the top, is that possible)? If not, would it be okay to coat PPG alykld enamel (with hardener) with this? Is that a compatible material to use between clean bare steel and your liner?
Thank you!

Sorry I missed this post/question
You can vary the texture by just leaving it alone and not re-rolling after the 2nd coat.
I have not looked yet at ALs liner. People seem to like it. I don't know if it can be rolled since they use that hopper gun and I know I have heard that it does not spray well with a regular undercoat gun. That's all I know for now.
You can put Monstaliner over PPG enamel. Just scuff sand to dull gloss and then solvent wipe
Yopar 05-24-2011, 07:42 PM Very nice job and great texture too.
Thanks. The prep work took a few days, lots of elbow grease! The first coat of Monstaliner took a few hours to lay down, and I let coat #1 dry overnight because I was losing light. Putting the can of Monstaliner in the spare fridge helped slow down the catalyst, but I still had to add some MEK to it the next morning.
The directions are important, using the xylene float helps keep the chassis saver, the plastic saran wrap, all the tips are worth reading a few times before you start. Some of the tips aren't on the sheet, but can be picked up by reading these threads.

Yopar 05-24-2011, 08:30 PM Let me know what you think is missing. We're doing a bunch of updates now and I'd like your feedback
"Can I wait overnight for the second coat" question you could add something about putting the can in the fridge to slow the catalyst down...I put it inside tightly tied plastic bags, but it still smelled STRONG so a secondary fridge is best IMO. Then something about adding MEK if it thickens, because mine definitely started to cure overnight.
I used the sponge to texture the cut-in corners as I went. The best method is to get the material on the metal, and then texture it after it sets for a minute. I'm sure this would change with temperature and humidity factor.
Also a short blurb about painting over the surface of Monstaliner might be added, because I have seen you mention this but it's not in the sheet.

Sorry for my absence here lately. Been going crazy with the release of colors.
Yes and Yes on first question. Just apply the promo codes before checkout and the quart you want free must also be in the cart before the code zeros out price.
You add a tintable kit to the cart first and then add the color you want as separate item. Front page of shop cart has instructions. Order 2 cans of color for 2 gal kit. Post or PM if you have a problem
Here's what we got so far in colors
Jeep Spice - OD Green - Med Quartz Gray - Lt Quartz Gray - White - Desert Sand - Dark Burnt Orange
magnetman 06-06-2011, 09:28 PM can the chassis saver be added directly to bare metal? specifically new bare metal, i am producing parts that are made from new sheets of hot and cold rolled steel. i am looking for a durable finish that i can apply without much if any more equipment that i already have.
New bare steel must be roughened first either by blasting or mechanical abrasion (60 grit)
What will be your application method?
Would you be putting a final finish of any kind over the CS?
magnetman 06-06-2011, 09:29 PM "Can I wait overnight for the second coat" question you could add something about putting the can in the fridge to slow the catalyst down...I put it inside tightly tied plastic bags, but it still smelled STRONG so a secondary fridge is best IMO.
Thanks, am working some of this into revised instructions and FAQ list

7 colors are out now. Scroll down 5 posts for latest photo
I know what a Scout is but not sure of it's size
How does tub and body size compare to a 2 door Wrangler?
plug ugly 06-08-2011, 08:46 PM 150 percent Id guess
magnetman 06-08-2011, 09:31 PM 150 percent Id guess
I'm going to say 3 gallons easy, perhaps 4
If you get me some tight measurements of sides, hood, back & roof I'll help fig closely, round all to nearest inch
2 Dr Wrangler has 55 - 60 sq ft in tub = 1 gal
TJ Wrangler we measured exterior on will use 1.25 gals without roof, 1.7 gals with roof
Spray or roll?

KDXSR5 06-16-2011, 03:08 PM I sent in a request for a sample of the Medium Quartz Gray to be sent to Wyoming today. I was wondering if I could possibly get a sample of the Light Quartz Gray sent as well? It would be much appreciated.
Also, is the color liner available in anything less than a 1 gallon size? I need about half of that to do the inside of my regular cab 1985 Toyota.
I would like to place an order before the end of the month to take advantage of the pirate4x4 promo offers, but I need to see the stuff in person first.
Thank you.

I will make sure you get both colors. We have a batch of chips mailing tomorrow
I don't have smaller than gallons right now. I'm really waiting to get this fully released and see how many requests we get for quarts
Problem is packing the color tints smaller than 8oz for less than gallons. If we do eventually do tintable quarts we have to pack 2 oz jars of color

Thank you very much sir. I can always just mix only a portion of the color, catalyst, and the actual liner stuff, can't I? I could mix just a quart or a half gallon if I wanted to, right? That would make it more viable, as i could use it as I need it for projects and stuff, and I could buy different colors and such from you and work out of the same gallon kit.

Yes you can. In the next few days we will have an awesome update to the installation guide that will have breakdowns on mixing less than gallon units and a whole bunch of interesting info we have learned over the past 2 years
We will eventually be forced to pack the tintable down in quarts with small color packs. I've had people contact me wanting to use this as a gravel guard on mountain bikes, on speaker cabinets, even old tonka trucks
Is this brush-on and/or roll-on......or does it have to be sprayed on?
How does the color hold up to UV rays and fading from the sun?
magnetman 06-20-2011, 07:26 PM Is this brush-on and/or roll-on......or does it have to be sprayed on?
How does the color hold up to UV rays and fading from the sun?
Primarily designed for roll-on so you get the texture we designed into it.
Can be sprayed only if you like
Made from 100% aliphatic, UV permanent polymers and automotive grade pigments. Will not fade.

Luckrider 06-20-2011, 07:35 PM With it in my current Jeep for over a year and in my last Jeep for about 6 months before it got totaled, can say with experience that it will not fade. My Jeep hangs in the sun quite a lot with the top and doors off and it is still as black as the day I put it in (granted the carpet is in it, but the exposed parts still are). I also have it on the top rail where the hard top sits, and it that has also been in all weather from 100+ heat to negative degree snow storms.
Thanks for the info.....I have this bumper, which is currently powdercoated red
I was hoping to lightly scuff the paint and use a bedliner material (in black) to cover the bumper (inside and out):

Other than using the roller, can a paint brush be used to get into the smaller or hard-to reach areas?
How many coats of your product are typically needed for a good coat and coverage?
How many quarts would I need for this bumper?
magnetman 06-21-2011, 06:56 PM I see no problem just scuffing good powder coat for Monstaliner. Just MEK or acetone wipe good before/after scuff.
1 Quart covers 15 sq ft in 2 coats so that's more than enough. You can likely get 4 coats there.
Brush can be used or check this kit out. Now comes with 1 extra roller refill not pictured. Roller is 2" wide and you can cut the foam to sponge in texture where roller may be tight

If the liner is scuffed up, torn, or needs repair....can the liner just be touched up over the damaged area or does the area need to be sanded down and redone?
Shoot me a PM with a price for two of the roller/sponge kits and include a price for whatever liner material will be needed for the bumper.....plus some extra for touch ups, etc

KDXSR5 06-22-2011, 10:38 PM SO what does it look like when sprayed on? Does it come out smooth, or  What if I spray it and then follow it with a roller? I am hoping my samples show up in the next couple days while I am still in town.

toy's 07-18-2011, 06:47 PM just a quick question how much would i need to do the interior floor on a single cab tacoma. also a 4runner. seperate quantities if you could as i will be doing these at different times. i would just buy enough to do both but cant afford to have anything else laying around the garage in between the two jobs. thanks alot mike
cj8scrambld 07-19-2011, 07:22 AM Let me ask you this, or your chemist. Will your product work over an existing Line-X'd tub? Line-X , nor any other manufacturer can answer that for me. My tub is presently Line-X'd (obviously, or I wouln't be asking) and I intend to make some body changes, it'll be sooo much easier to just do it myself. Thanks!
carslut 07-26-2011, 09:04 AM this thread got slow super fast...... magnetman, let me know if you ever have an chance about the questoins in the PM i sent you.
tigerxj 07-26-2011, 02:52 PM I had a question about how this stuff holds up to heat. I saw either in this thread or on the site that it is good for 190*...but i've seen a few people lay it over their tranny tunnels.
Those who have done interiors, how is it holding up in the hot areas? Does it breakdown with the heat? I ask because the passenger side of my '99 cherokee has the exhaust running right underneath it. It has melted floor mats and even some tennis shoes. It will be getting a heat shield soon, but I don't want to put something down if it is really heat labile.
Luckrider you mentioned your hot tranny tunnel. How is it doing with the monstaliner over it?
Luckrider 07-26-2011, 06:25 PM Mine has been in there for more than a year, and it is just like day 1 :smokin: Not a single bit of trouble with the heat. Friday I drove over 100 miles in the 115 degree heat that we had. 4 passengers and 2 dogs and the Jeep was running pretty hot. I even got a rough idle from the heat soak, and a CEL for a misfire in Cyl. 3. Liner is still kicking ass. 3 days of triple digit driving does not make me happy though :mad3:

Once again, sorry for the delayed response
It's more of a water droplet effect. Are you looking for smooth or texture. There's some great photos on JeepForum of a recently rolled exterior with a small amount of reducer added for less texture
This was sprayed and can be varied by gun distance and PSI used

Chassis Saver is a beast. Monstaliner is not as tough under hammer like that. They are very different chemistries. ML is plenty tough but it's also designed to hold its appearance without degrading from UV

Honestly I'm not sure of the sq footage inside a tacoma or 4Runner
A 2 door Wrangler tub uses 1 gallon and the footage there is about 60 sq ft
Approx the same footage in a 6 ft pickup bed
If you put a tape measure in them we can figure it easy

There is no reason it won't work over an old Line-X as long as you clean it really well. How textured is that surface and can it be scuffed up?

TheTonka 07-29-2011, 08:53 AM Just came across this. Looks like a good product.
I have been looking at bedliner products for my toyhauler. The back half will be getting a roll up carpet and I would like to replace the vinyl flooring with a tough bed liner. Will you product hold up to ATVs and Jeeps being driven on it inside a toyhauler?
magnetman 07-29-2011, 08:58 AM Yes Magnapoxy is an automotive grade 1 to 1 mix ratio 2K epoxy primer. Can be applied to any clean, smooth steel, aluminum, stainless surface with no roughening needed for great adhesion. Never talked much about it before because it was only packed in 2 gal kits. We now have it in 2 quart kits (1/2 gal total)
Can be used under Monstaliner and even Chassis Saver or any industrial or automotive paint
We recommend it lots when someone is doing a complete exterior Monstaliner project and the old paint on their rig is questionable.
Right now it comes in light gray. See more info here

Absolutely, just need to make sure surface prep is correct for adhesion
How is vinyl flooring attached now? What will surface be like when tile is removed? Any glue residue?

The vinyl floor is glued to plywood. The plan would be to remove the vinyl,, prep the plywood, and prep the steel side walls so I can coat the floor and up the wall about 1'
Ho Shorts 07-29-2011, 11:08 AM I JUST found this thread and am very interested in this product for the bed on my old ramp truck I am restoring. It has a 15 foot dovetail bed that is 7 feet wide. How much do you think it would take to do the bed including sides. Picture for reference:

'05TJLWBRUBY 07-29-2011, 11:53 AM So I just used a quart and a half of the Chassis Saver yesterday on another project. I have already done the Jeep tub in the Lt. Grey Monstaliner which is excellent by the way, and have more Lt. Grey and black Monsta either already on other trailers, or waiting to go on today. I'll get pics of them up later once done.
My "off-road trailer build" just got coated in the Magnapoxy earlier this week-I forget when I did that. I already did the top coat of Monstaliner black on it and will be doing the finish lt. grey on it today. Will get pics up later for that once I'm done. I got the 2 gallon Magnapoxy kit and just followed the mix directions using single cup measuring scoops and mixing in an old tupperware container. So far, I've used it on a couple other things as well and will be using more today or tomorrow. I was kinda surprised-the stuff goes a long way. I did my entire off-road trailer which was bare steel with I think it was a total of 5 cups of product. Have over half of each gallon left. Came out great for the primer using only a brush and roller. Sorry, no pics of it as I just didn't think about it at the time.
BUT, I did get another project coated with Chassis Saver yesterday. The Chassis Saver comes in a quart size FREE with a Monstaliner kit purchase. Well, while the promo is good anyway-however long that is... Anyway, I've bought 3 kits now of Monsta and had 3 free quarts of Chassis Saver. Decided this project would be a great place to put it to use. This stuff is COOL!!! It's pretty thin like Milk almost but goes on smooth and easy. It's like POR-15 only at a fraction of the cost. I did this using a 3" brush only-the cheapest I could find at the local ACE Hardware. This is two coats of Chassis Saver on the tub/frame/fenders. Like POR-15, it is not UV stable though and does need a top coat. I'll be coating this project with both Monstaliner and regular Rustoleum later today. Anyway, here's the pics before/after...

http://s44.photobucket.com/albums/f47/55willystruck/IMG_6114.jpg
That is two coats as recommended for rust. All I did here was use a blade to get the chipped/flaked stuff off then ran over with a grinder to get the other loose/chaulky stuff, washed and painted it on with the cheapy brush. Very smooth stuff, kind of a "candied" finish I guess, very smooth. Pretty cool stuff, really happy with it. Have a couple other trailer projects going at the moment and may end up buying some more for those as well.
Getting a late start today, off to put down some Monstaliner on this one. Will get more pics up of that once done.
Best of Luck,
Mike
magnetman 07-30-2011, 03:44 PM The vinyl floor is glued to plywood. The plan would be to remove the vinyl,, prep the plywood, and prep the steel side walls so I can coat the floor and up the wall about 1'
Just need to determine if the glue/adhesive used under tiles is suitable to coat over without complete removal.
If it's soft or rubbery like a troweled on mastic I would be very cautious.
Tell me what you know and I'll advise
mike_breaker_5 07-30-2011, 09:57 PM the only thing i currently have painted with the magnapoxy are my metalcloaks. i coated over them with black then OD monstaliner. the monsta has chipped where the flares interface with the fenders. the magnapoxy, however has not chipped any at all. it is hard as nails and easy to work with.
SarahRose 08-09-2011, 08:38 PM Hey all. I'm new to Pirate, but definitely not new to Monsta. I coated the interior of my TJ a while ago and I LOVE it. It's strong AND I just found out, (while accidentally bending the interior passenger floor pan installing my rock sliders) that it's also really flexible. The tub is bent downwards a good inch/inch and a half and the monsta was totally unfazed. And the stuff is sexy.
By the way, Magnetman, I want to do my cage in the lime green really badly, when will Monstaliner be available in quarts??

magnetman 08-09-2011, 09:25 PM Wooooh, very nice, clean job!
Aaarg, quarts of tintable are coming soon. I'm getting asked every day. We're just having to take time to carefully test and select a small 2 oz plastic bottle that won't be damaged by solvent in the colors. No metal cans that small available that won't leak during shipping. I'm hoping to have this online for sale in 4 - 5 weeks.
Again, awesome job and thanks for the post. Lime green will look great with the blue/black!
Hey all.
Here's some pics of my tub, finished:

Luckrider 08-09-2011, 09:43 PM MagnetMan, how viable of an option would baby food jars be? I just looked it up, 2.5oz. Not sure if you would need to vacuum seal them or not (I am thinking not) so they could work perfectly. Solvents won't attack the glass and metal lid.
