Per recomendations from an earlier post here, I have been looking for and found a tilt wheel in a 80-81 van that I have been told is a "bolt in" for my '79 F-150

It is at a U Pull It and I will go get it on Saturday.......if....

Apparently someone had some problems before it hit the wrecking yard and cut all of the wired coming out of the column and has wire nutted them in a tangled mess.

What I need to know is if the wire colors on this column will match up to my F-150 wiring?? I can trouble shoot what may not work after hooking them up, but if it don't work to begin with, figuring out which wire goes where will be a nightmare.

Thanks,

Mike

Infoford,

You sure? Several people have told me it will work. I will take some measurements today, to be sure.

How much needs cut off. Should be easy enough to do.

Well I picked it up yesterday. Looks like the swap should be pretty easy. I might have to move the mounting bracket at the dash, but other than that, no big problem.

Even the auto tranny mechanism looks like it would bolt up, but I think I will go with a cable operated floor shifter. I am going to put in the wristed arm at the same time, and I don't want any binding.

Thanks,

Mike

"Finished" with the column last night. I disassembled it and removed all the auto shifter mechanism. I had to splice in a wiring harness, as whoever removed the shift indicator/neutral safety switch had cut all the wires to the column. All of the wire colors matched the harness I took out of a '79 Bronco, and the plug is the same as my truck. I am going to plug it in this afternoon and make sure the horn/turn signals/hazards all work.

I will have to move the mounting bracket at the dash as its current location will move the wheel two inches into the cab, but it still looks like is should "bolt in". I might have to shorten the the steering shaft from the column to the steering box. But so far so good.

Thanks all who replied to my original post and helped me out on this.
