I know jack squat about fords other than I have beat the shit out of an e350 box van at work for 8 years. For that I have respect for them. I am looking into buying a tow rig. There is a guy in town selling an 87 f250 diesel 4wd with a 4 spd. Ya guys got any info on these things? I plan on towing with it, thats all.

*Are there any problematic little things to know?*

Thanks for the help

I have the same truck you are talking about now only mine is a 460 instead of a diesel. It has been perfect for me. It has 63,000k on it. Runs like a champ. check this site out for more info... (http://www.myplanet.net/tman13/ownedcat.jpg)

My Dad has an 87 diesel and it towed really slow, even when it was new.No turbo hurts it but there's a few aftermarket turbo kits for them.

Just becarful if it has a 7.3. The first set of 7.3 heads suck. They had a bad problem of eating valves, and major craking problems. However I believe that 87 should still have a 6.9. If it does, and you want to throw a little money around, you can make the 6.9 eat powerstrokes and cummins.

I have 2 86 f-350s. One has 75k the other has 250k. They both run great. The one with 250k also has an ATS, C6 and is a 4 door lifted with 38s, running 3.50 gears. The turbo make it run like the other that is stock reg cab,4spd and 235s. A turbo will make one hell of a diffrence if you are well above sea level.

I have an 86 f250 with the 6.9. It has about 350,000 miles on it. It was a work truck from day one. It regularly pulled goose-neck trailer with about 10-12 tons with no problems. The only things that have been replaced was the injector pump (at about 80k miles) and the clutch (at 300k miles). It still runs good and doesn't burn oil. It is a great truck.
