: Bed sides vs. Skins

I have my Scout all sanded down for some fresh paint. I really like how the front fenders turned out, and the right bedside turned out ok. But the left bedside had some existing damage and so it didn't "cut and fold" as nicely as the right side. Basically it's not gonna make the cut to get painted so I am trying to decide what I want to do.

Option #1 - Track down a fresh bedside to chop and attach.

Option #2 - Ditch both bedsides and make some skins.

If I could afford to go with coil overs in the rear I would be down with cutting the frame/bed etc and just skinning the cage (I kind of built the cage with this in mind).

But to leave the frame/bed floor in place I would need to skin from the upper tube down to the bed floor. I am concerned this will look pretty lame, like just a square panel with a little fender opening cut out. Thoughts?

And the first time you flop it, it will look different how?
Seems to me it is a crawler,,,, or is it a trailer queen?

I like it just like it is. Touch up the primer and wheel it!:smokin:

Well, the idea was to pretty it up so that it might sell. Unfortunately I need money more than the Scout now days.

Yeah but think about the market of people that are going to consider buying that. Will they find your effort worth it? Primer and paint will probably be worth it, the dents and damage probably not worth fixing

My 3 cents is it need's to good good from across the street. If it looks good from a distance then people will stop by to look.

Maybe I could do a little of both. Inner flat skin from tube to bed floor, and find a decent pair of sides to chop down and bolt onto the outside.

Kinda like this only probably not as clean.

Didn't Scout Broker buy this rig?

Not to tell you what you don't already know. That Scout you just posted started at 15,000 and finally sold for around 6,000. I bought a Scout set up for tons, with a rebuilt 345, on propane, and it had a D-300 with a 4to1 kit for 1,200. Its a buyers market, if you can you need to hold out for a while. I am sorry but I think you will have to part it to get any where near what your price will be. You can look at the thread "secret snow scout" and see what what I mean. I really hope you get what you need for your truck, or better yet find a way to keep and enjoy it. I have owned my SSII, for longer than most here have been alive and it has grown and evolved but has always been a hobby that I can fall back on. I don't get to drive it near as much as I want to but one day.

And by the way Scout Broker stole that rig:flipoff2:

I think it would look funny if you just skinned it. Imho if you were to ditch the bedsides it would look better as open tube rather than fake quarters.

Yeah, I remember that. That shit was crazy. I kept watching the price drop and was like "wtf I am going to have to pull a tard move and buy another Scout, where is this thing?....oh, wait...it sold". I think I was one of a few on here that breathed a sigh of releif when we realized we didn't have to explain how buying another Scout made any sense :homer:

Anyway, I can go out in the shop and work on the Scout all day for free so I spend alot more time wrenching than wheeling these days. Might as well chip away at making it more appealing to potential buyers. Until I find a job I have to at least make an effort to sell the toys. It's not costing me anything though, so I don't need to give it away.

You are not the only one that was relieved, I was actually relieved/pissed that Broker stole that thing. Then that dumb ass took it out and turned it over the first time he wheeled it:flipoff2:

And by the way I'm number one in line when Broker gets his Buggy done.

That was the third time I wheeled it. :flipoff2: It was just the first time with the new power train in it. :shaking:

I would not spend the $$ on body work and paint just to try to sell something for more $$. You hardly ever get your investment back. If you want to paint it or fix it for yourself that is another story. But don't think that you can throw more money at a Scout and make it back when it sells. Like Robert said that rig I bought that is pictured there was listed at $16,000 something and had way more $$ invested by a pro shop. I ended up paying $6500 pretty sad really when you think of all the time invested. However I'm happy as a clam. :flipoff2:

PS: I like the bedsides the way they are. Fix up as much as you want, but I like the current look.

I think if your rig is that pretty it is destined to roll :p .

Scout Broker, how did you fair in that role? Smack your head at all? I like how that cage kicks out, think I might add something like that to mine.

Yep and I will fix and paint mine good as new. Just so I can flop it again.:flipoff2:
I like mine to be pretty when I beat the hell out of them. Seems like I'm having more fun that way.:smokin:

No head smack at all.. This is how I am all the time. :eek:The cage works great! But it went over so slow that it wasn't even very exciting.:D

Also that day I was still being protected by a Crown haze from the night before. :grinpimp:

JF You see from the banter here Scouts are a way of life. Bottom line you have done cool shit with your Scout and it's a 1980 way cool. Keep the damn thing, come out west hand me my ass and go home and brag about whooping Jetfxr. If you sell it the money will be gone in a short time, and the Scout will be gone forever, AND you will regret it. Sallow your pride be some perv's boy toy, sell your first born but if it ant costin you, don't sell it. And if you really have too PM me I will profit of your labor sweat.

Leave it the way it is and hold out for somebody who appreciates a Scout. That way, when it goes you don't regret it so much.

I don't know how I'd ever get rid of my Scout and its beat to shit; unless it was to another Scouter or a very close friend.
