AMAZING!
uninformed 11-23-2010, 11:12 PM Awesome work Matt.
did you lay the shocks down and canterlever them so they didnt stick up through the bed/frame??
matt_helton 11-23-2010, 11:45 PM yes, this truck will also be getting a pop-top camper too so the customer wanted an unobstructed bed space for sleeping/camping/hauling gear.
thecarman 11-24-2010, 03:23 AM Your welds are freakin awesome!
The dimple-holes in the rear face of the rear bumper - if stuff gets in there, is there a way to get it back out, or is the bumper sealed otherwise? I *think* I can see little drain holes at the bottom, like if you wanted to wash it out. Are those dimple-holes in the bumper just for looks?
Andy351 11-24-2010, 02:47 PM how much travel and what are you doing for CVs in front?
matt_helton 11-24-2010, 07:50 PM yes the dimples are just for looks.....they are by request of the customer.......and yes there are 4 drain holes in the main plate to let debris/water out.......the outter cv's are stock and the inners are a 930cv with custom 300m axles. the kit will do 15" but i strap them at 14" just to keep things reliable.

Andy351 11-24-2010, 09:50 PM interesting, did not expect factory CVs to handle that much angle. looks like its going to be a pretty darn fun truck. which motor does it have?
matt_helton 11-24-2010, 10:29 PM yeah the stock outter cv's are actually pretty decent all things considered....and the truck has a 5.3L
ecnalubma 11-25-2010, 09:54 AM So, where does one go to make a deal with the devil?

masonmachines 11-25-2010, 04:50 PM Is the rear axle going to be stock?
matt_helton 11-25-2010, 09:49 PM Is the rear axle going to be stock?
for now yes.........but when he blows that one up im sure he'll be back for one of our 9" housings.
yellowk20 11-25-2010, 10:25 PM Very nice work !!!
FYI though dont use those cans for gas unless you make a way to vent them. If not they will expand and it will take a friggin pipe wrench to open them.
DRTRAYDEUCE 11-25-2010, 10:55 PM I want to make sexy time with your welding!
SSSRodeo 11-26-2010, 06:47 AM Matt, I really like how the swing outs carriers on the rear bumper don't cover up the tail lights.
Still not sure why someone would want you build a truck with that much bling in the suspension and not do a bullit proof axle while you were at it.
I'm thinking it would be like dating a transvestite to me. It will gets the job done, but is gonna be messy eventually!:D
Nice work Dude! I'd be proud if I could lay down an inch of welds that purdy!

Outlawz4X4 12-31-2010, 02:07 PM how many hours?? shit i stopped counting after about 30 or 40....
When you have that many hours into a bumper, does the customer actually get billed for that many hours? Your fab work and welding is top notch, but do people actually pay $3k-$4k (estimated) for a rear bumper? Or does it all even out when the final bill is tallied up? Obviously this guy has money, considering everything thing else you've done on the truck. I'm just wondering if you get payed for every tedious hour you put into these types of projects.
Arya Ebrahimi 01-01-2011, 02:19 AM When you have that many hours into a bumper, does the customer actually get billed for that many hours? Well if he was getting paid for every tedious hour, do you think he would have stopped counting? :flipoff2:
Outlawz4X4 01-01-2011, 12:37 PM Sure, if the customer is the type where money does grow on trees, you don't even count the hours, just throw out a way inflated figure and be prepared to be rained on with $20's :flipoff2:
matt_helton 01-02-2011, 07:56 PM the lower main portion of the bumper is 1.75" and both the swinging pieces are made from 1.5".........as for the hours and price.....no the customer is not paying by the hour for this. we came to an estimated labor time prior to starting and that is what the billing is based off...and its all figured in to the total build cost of the truck.....had we just been building a bumper alone than yes we prolly would be billing the customer differently.

Can you tell me where you got those licsense plate lights? I'm building one of these for my chevy and that's the only thing I haven't been able to find yet. Awesome design btw. I wish I had the money to give you my truck and have you work your magical skills on it.
Thanks

madmax_087 02-28-2011, 11:21 AM That is the saddest thing I have ever heard! :(
The dude will probably sell this thing for like 80% of what he paid for, then it will bounce around from owner to owner and only occasionally get used. So sad.
rudukai13 03-05-2011, 02:18 PM Perhaps a bit off topic, but I was wondering if you would know whether or not your long travel system would be applicable to the hybrid GMC Sierra/Chevy Silverado trucks, or would it confuse the electrical systems too much?
SteelFuser 03-05-2011, 09:36 PM Nice first post fella. Also a member for that long without one. I applaud you. :)

surfingsnow510 04-25-2011, 08:00 AM i love 4x4 prerunners,but most people just stick with the 2wd :(
texasammi 04-27-2011, 09:58 PM Does that latch set up seem to be pretty solid? I did something similar with the same latch and it didnt keep it locked in real well, but it wasnt exactly the same. Mine acctually swung open on me on the trail and my jerry can mount ate my tail light.....
j2005 04-28-2011, 01:58 AM holy crap!!! i have the same thing...in my dreams :(

AxleIke 06-22-2011, 09:23 AM Beautiful! Amazing work!
And BRILLIANT. I've always wondered at "expedition" vehicles that have all the bells and whistles but mostly stock supsension. Guess rattled out kidneys are part of the adventure for some.
When I am out in the back country, there is nothing I wish for more than a suspension system that can handle hours of rutted, bumpy roads.
This is perfect!
BigWoodyWag 07-17-2011, 06:32 PM nice feature in "Offroad" this month. congrats
FlexdXJ 07-21-2011, 03:15 PM Holy mother of god, that thing is amazing!
Xjcrawler736 07-26-2011, 07:21 AM If I had the coin my Ram would be in your shop getting the same treatment. That is a work of art. Well done!
yotasmob 07-26-2011, 04:05 PM Killer work. Amazing rig, love it.
g-wizz 09-28-2011, 10:54 AM dont forget to heat treat those suspension arms. haha
RockChump 10-31-2011, 06:26 PM Amazing craftsmanship!
What are you're thoughts on spring under and flipped shackle? Would it be better for a heavier rig like say a '96 suburban 4x4?
Are the A arms wider then stock? The website says 91" track which should work out to +2 on each side. Correct me if I'm wrong I'm not sure what the new trucks are stock.
Not sure if I missed it but what was the rear suspension travel set at? 16"?
Are the '08 wheel bearings rotors and caliper any different from my '96 4x4 1500 sub? The reason I ask is I really like the knuckles and would get these and make my own arms that are a +4 with a 5"bs walker rim to help with cv angles and steering scrub, steering axis inclination and so forth.
Keep up the great work! Thanks
Codyy 04-11-2012, 07:15 AM bump cuz I love that rear bumper.

I copied the pictures to my computer to show to my fabricator buddy. We plan on building something similar on my W250
rudukai13 04-11-2012, 07:19 PM So I'm curious - would something like this be competitive in the stock or modified class at KOH?
