budget76 11-26-2010, 10:43 PM Is the brown one getting parted for it? I always loved the look of that one, but it looks like the same cage pulled and put into the new build. Looking forward to more pics:D
plug ugly 11-27-2010, 11:52 AM keep it coming, looking forward to the drivetrain install pics.

glad you got the Ninja bars figured out, they look good. Never did put the other side on mine, but did use them as I walk around the Scout to lock in the front on Wednesday.

jrad12381 12-20-2010, 08:48 PM Looks great! How did you extend your rear inner wheel wells? They look really clean.
scouttanks 12-20-2010, 10:17 PM I cut the rear half out and then moved it back and weld it in place. Then spliced sheet metal in. Droped about 40lbs each side. Very easy to do just take time.
binderbound 12-21-2010, 01:22 PM I like the links and stuff. What coils are those? The ford column is a nice touch too:D

scouttanks 01-10-2011, 06:34 PM I know its silly but I need feed back, tell me you think, now is the time to change anything that needs it. More pics comming soon.
235frog 01-16-2011, 07:33 PM How's the front clearance going to be between the oilpan and the links?
justscoutin 01-17-2011, 06:29 AM looks good.
on your upper spring mount, does it just weld to the side of the frame or wrap around under the bottom at all? if its just to the side of the frame i'd be worried it would tear out the frame there. they're not real thick.
reuben 01-17-2011, 11:08 AM Are those just nuts butt welded to your lower links? If they are I would wrap a piece of 1/8" x 1" around the splice so it welds to the nut and the link.
scouttanks 01-17-2011, 06:50 PM To reuben, I took some grade 8 nuts and turned them down and they slip in about 3/4" and about my top spring mount they are just tacked in place for now tell I get motor in to find the right height. I will wrap the fram to beef it up
ChestonScout 01-17-2011, 07:05 PM How's the front clearance going to be between the oilpan and the links?
This
I had my uppers triangulated on my first 4 link setup. Altho they worked amazing, I put the links thru my oil pan the first time I jumped it at TTC.
I ended up just running the uppers parallel to the frame. Stil plenty stable with just the lowers triangulated.
Either bump stop the hell out of it or think about something different.
It looks VERY similar to my first setup. Even the coils bowing out!
What I did to help correct that was run a piece of cable between the 2 coils. I just ratched straped them til they were straight then ran the cable. i never had a problem after that. It even made Petersens mag for a neat moab trick section a few years back.
ChestonScout 01-17-2011, 07:17 PM One more thing
What coils are those?
They look like the CAGE bronco coils.
If they are....they were to soft for me. That was what I bought first and with the weight of the 345 over them they bottomed out sitting in the driveway.
I had to buy some Deaver coils from Bronco graveyard to hold the ol boat anchor up
plug ugly 01-17-2011, 11:39 PM if those are CAGE and you want to trade for deavers from bronco graveyard, let me know.
What was the point in raising the rear floor? storage?
scouttanks 01-18-2011, 08:57 AM The coil springs are toms bronco and I do think they are to soft so if you want to trade I would love to. With the oil pan issure I have measured and I should be fine running with a 351w. I have now 9" of uptravel in the front and I need to limit that down and my oil pan is still 2" away. I dont want it tall and should be about the same height as old one. BTW the old one is for sale
scouttanks 01-19-2011, 09:37 PM Thinks for the info and keep it coming,
scouttanks 01-21-2011, 05:54 PM Getting closer, now its time to focus on the 351w and 5 speed to 203, 205 doubler. Plus need to finish the front bumber and paint. The brown scout is for sale.

jrad12381 02-15-2011, 07:35 PM Any updates? I really like the way this is turning out?
scouttanks 02-19-2011, 06:49 PM More pics are coming soon. I just ordered the wheels and tires, and been working on the motor. Money is getting short and running out of things to do.
jrad12381 02-19-2011, 07:22 PM What wheels and tires did you get? I noticed we have both been trying to get the same tires in Cali.
scouttanks 02-19-2011, 09:49 PM I decided to go with the one's that I want so I ordered 42x15x17in Pitbulls with soft 8 wheels, 2 1/2 backspacing, I can add beadlocks later.
BLK Scout 800 02-19-2011, 10:02 PM Nice build! Who's doing the welding?
Way to nice to be Brians :flipoff2:

Thanks jackass :flipoff2:
Mike has done all of his own work so far :D
jrad12381 02-22-2011, 05:47 PM Have you got your PBR's yet I tried to order the same tire today but pitbull only had 3 left.
scouttanks 02-22-2011, 08:51 PM net yet but they are on the way, should be here in one week.
scouttanks 03-09-2011, 07:34 PM Ok after this weekend I should have more pics up. I have my PBR and the motor in the hole. Making cross member now. I want to take pics with it at ride height. It would be almost complete, at least on the out side. lol
jrad12381 03-12-2011, 05:16 PM Hows the Scout coming? Do you have any updated pics of how you did the crossmember with the 203/205 in there? I saw the Scout you sold posted on Craigslist. That was fast.
scouttanks 03-14-2011, 08:20 PM So my rims didnt show up and that sucks, Should be here later in the week. So for now going to do the cross member and I will take pics. Hopefully by next week I will be taking pics of the whole rig together. Then its all the little thing to be delt with, brake lines, wiring and gears. oh what fun it is.
scouttanks 03-17-2011, 08:59 PM Ok got alot done this week on spring break. I moved the front end up and down to check clearance and its works awesome and no hitting. Skid plate turned good but it was a bitch to build, took 3 days with the first day just thinking about how to start. Tires are looking good and I like how it sits. I like it.

war pony 03-18-2011, 07:10 AM Looking Good, Did that skid plate come from CAT :D Nice
BlueBomber72 03-19-2011, 11:05 PM Damn, looks good. coming together nicely. I'll have to come check it out for myself sometime soon. What's that extra mounting spot on the skid plate for? Another support that goes to the 205 plate?
chicotony 03-23-2011, 05:54 PM You make me sick!!

ChiScouter 04-02-2011, 08:42 PM Nice looking build. I didn't see any mention of the raised floor in the rear. Did you need to raise the section in front of the axle for link clearance?
scouttanks 04-03-2011, 09:17 AM The raised floor in the back is for slide in tool boxes, try to even out the weight as much as possible.
Snoopy 04-03-2011, 05:43 PM  Very well done.
ChiScouter 04-03-2011, 06:01 PM  Very well done.
Hey Snoopy there is some guy on Binderplanet that is leaving messages about his scout that you have. He seems to think you are avoiding his calls and not responding to his posts. He said it was supposed to be done last October. Im sure its a simple misunderstanding but since you seem to be unaware of the situation I thought I would fill you in.
Snoopy 04-03-2011, 06:05 PM Hey Snoopy...yadda...yadda...yadda...
Hey wow man. Thanks. I'll look into that.
scouttanks 04-15-2011, 07:32 PM OK, I built a new 28 gal. fuel tank and it turned out awesome. Mounted it up with no problems. Even plumed it for fuel injection if I ever get it.

Sweet:smokin: Post a couple details like size or any thing learned. I'm been thinking of making a tank
scouttanks 04-15-2011, 07:44 PM I made it fit in the frame so its 25 1/2 x 26x 10 1/2 with baffles, I use to build a lot of tanks in my day so this was pretty strait forward. I still want to build a skid plate for it but that would be later. Oh the one thing I did was bent up the inside of the frame where the stock skid plate bolted to so I would have a flat surface rubbing on some ware plates welded to the tank.
scouttanks 05-22-2011, 02:32 PM Ok I took the new scout out on Sat. and it did AWESOME. Now I did have problems but they where minor. Carb. needs to be tuned and the front hyd. hose's where too short. Other than that, not much went wrong. I even got some air to test out the coil springs. It was a nice ride, not rough at all and it drives down the Hwy at 70 mph just fine. I love it, cant wait to get out on some good wheeling trips this year. There is still thing that I will up grade later when money come in. Hers are some pics. Scout 245 will send me more and I will post when I get them. The first pics is when I bought it last year at the beginning of Sept. I will post all the specs later when I get around to it. The final cost and Length, height and so on.

guidolyons 05-26-2011, 12:14 AM Nicely Done  Looks great!
scouttanks 06-02-2011, 09:59 PM Ok this is what I got going. I bought the scout for $220 bucks on September 10th 2010 and it took me tell May 21st 2011 to take it out for the first time. Not too bad time line from start to finish. I was lucky in the sense that this is the second scout build of mine. I do a lot of other people builds but they are not scouts and I do love to build a scout. Plus I had my old scout here for most of the build so I got all the right measurements and tweak it where I needed to. I am not too good at telling everything that I did so if you have questions please ask. So for this is what I have, 351w with 10:1 compression, Dana high pinion, king pin front axle , Dana 70U rear, ZX 5speed , 203 to 205 ford doubler, full cage with Mustang seats mounted to cage, 10,000lb winch, 4 link front and rear, 42” Pit Bull Rockers, and much, much more. I still have to get to the scales for the final weight; I really want to know that one. I know a lot of you ask how I did it for so cheap but I do know how to shop around and find some awesome deals. For example I bought the front axle for $150 and trans for $85. Transfer case’s I got for free and many more deals. scouttanks 06-03-2011, 04:00 PM Got to the scales today and the heavy thing weighs in at 5970lbs, front axle 3065lbs, rear axle 2905lbs, a difference of 160lbs. Pretty even. Fully loaded with all my tools.
If you could post a couple pic of your rear bumper and the tie in. Scouty is looking to make a tire carrier and gas can holder. He has tube back there now.
plug ugly 06-03-2011, 09:55 PM how do you like the coils?
scouttanks 06-03-2011, 10:23 PM I like them. Not as good as coilover but way better than leaf. Its a smooth ride with the 4 link. The fronts are 5.5 wildhorse and the rear are 3.5 rancho's Bronco springs.
I had stock one in the rear at first but they where way too soft.
Scouty 06-04-2011, 09:44 AM Scout looks GREAT! What's the width? I noticed you are running 2 1/2" backspaced 17" rims, was there a specific reason other than preference? Also can you post some pics of the tool drawer and rear bumper and tire carrier? Hoping to do something similar on my junk. Congrats on the RIG...very nice :smokin:
scouttanks 06-05-2011, 05:46 PM You asked and you shall receive. First the wheel spacing was because I know that I needed the most turning radius possible. I put a '90 king pin in and the space between the housing and knuckle is small so the lower link was pushed out further then I wanted. Now if it was '78 '79 king pin I could have put the lower links in about three more inches. I still rub on the lower link as you can see. The tool box was made so that the heavy tools would be distributed throughout the floor and I still can open up the back and get to the tools when I packed for camping. I even put a light on the tire rack pointing right on the tool boxes. Now for the tire rack you can see how much reinforcement I did to the frame. I cut off the back cross member and made my own. There is a three inches frame lowering on it (lol) so I would have the room for the 28gal fuel tank.

Shadow man 06-05-2011, 06:35 PM Nice ride.
When you start rockcrawling a lot, you will find out your lower links are not strong enough to hold up to the beating. They WILL bend.
Scouty 06-05-2011, 07:48 PM Thanks for the pics. I really like that drawer setup. I have wanted to do that but have been too lazy...but I'm inspired now. Thanks Again
707offroad 09-18-2011, 09:50 AM are you running the stock steering box? do you have a close up picture of your steering box and where the holes are drilled for ram assist?
scouttanks 09-19-2011, 06:21 PM Running a stock f-350 two wheel drive box, I can get pics soon
707offroad 09-20-2011, 01:11 PM seems like running the box on the inside of the frame rails would make for a lot of headache with clearance issues on power steering pump and radiator. What are there benefits to running the ford box?
scouttanks 09-20-2011, 05:41 PM Easy to find and to port for hyd. ass. and easy to find. and easy to find.
I going to get a Ford pittman arm and ream it out. The Ford arm is way beefer then a Waggy arm. I will post up details in the steering arm thread once I pull one.
Somebody busted my pitman arm puller on the trail, like year ago. Matt.
dummy me should have kept and returned to HF, warranty.

What ford or fords is that arm out of?

Life got in the way, and I never made it out to the yards. I going to take a waggy arm with me and find a ford box it will fit on.
The early Bronco uses the same spline as a Scout pitman arm. So I hope to fine a beefy pitman off a ford F350 or some other big ford.
justscoutin 12-28-2011, 04:30 AM most domestic p/s boxes i've run into have the same spline, so it should be easy to find one. only boxes i've found different were manual ones.
Scouttanks Ford Pittman is beefy and has a drop more like the Waggy/Scout arms.

Pic above is a 1109 superlift arm. But looks like the Ford arm he was running vs a waggy with the narrow taper below that will bend when you have no power:(
