: Baja or Bust!

Just got my sprockets on order for my 426 (15/45). I am headed down to Baja for 9 days to help my friend prerun and race the 1000. Just bought a new tank, sprockets, camel back, and the rest of the misc stuff I have been wanting. I am stoked, never been to Baja with my bike, only on rental quads in Cabo. Gonna have a lot of spare time to reflect on work and general stress, SIKE!!:smokin:

Had to put the 4Runner on hold, gettin burned out on sourcing parts and wrenching. Maybe I will get started again when I get back, or maybe I will just start racing MX (BAHHH, decisions decisions).

Any tips on Baja. So far I have heard "be smart about where you leave your stuff, how much you drink, and alway ALWAYS top off your gas".

Anyway, first post here in the motorcycle forum. Doesn't seem very busy in here.

i've been told not to hurt yourself either. i guess the hospitals in mexico aren't top notch.

with a 426 you might want to bring some octane booster too. most of the gas there is very low octane. which i'm sure that 426 would not like.

Octane boost, great idea!

Nov issue of Dirt Rider has a write up on a dual sport trip that they took through Baja. They said that a typical gas station consisted of a 10yr old kid on the side of the road with a 55 gal drum and a hose for you to siphen with, AT 4 BUCKS A GALLON. They even had a pic of one of them. Not looking forward to that part, but hey I will not complain.

Thanks for the tip!

Wel I am back and that shit was off the hook! Not my first desert experience, but it was my first Baja experience. Can't wait until next year, I am going no matter what. Just seeing Andy Grieder (Cambell's team) coming down the road with their own helicopter was... WOW! I was shown around by a seasoned veteran and found some REALLY cool places on the Sea of Cortez. Baja is a must, but take a veteran or translator if you can't speak the language. Wonder what all you guys were doing here while I was having a blast?:flipoff2:

PEMEX gas :D:D:D:D LOL it sux. expensive as all hell, you never really know how much you are getting cause they pump it in most places and try to screw americans. and half the time they don't even have gas at some of the places. :D but there are plenty of guama huts to get your 32 ounce on while you're waiting for the fuel truck to show :D

tips to remember while at a Pemex.

Be sure to watch to see that they zero the pump before service.

Hope they have gas.

Prey they don't add too much water.

And don't forget to top off every chance you get because you never know what is (or is not) around the corner.

Always, ALWAYS have pesos and dollars, they will find out which one you don't have and then take advantage of you every time. They seem to have a sliding scale as far as the exchange rate goes depending on what kind of $$ you have.

Good Luck!:D
