Ok 89 xj limited

has
NP242
PART TIME
FULL TIME
LOW RANGE

oK, So as many of you know i am in the process of running leaf sprung up front, well i am getting my rear driveline fabricated, and i drove to work today in front wheel drive... The fwakn front drive keeps slipping out of being enguaged, and a grinding sound starts, i pull over, put it in nutral, then bac into part time (full front enguage).

WTF?

Lose chain?

:(

Its probably pissed off because it is a full time transfer case and you are running it with a load only on the front axle. I dont know alot about 242's but i do know they suck :flipoff2:

Ain't nothin' wrong with our 242's. Most likely the linkage is just slightly out of adjustment and driving in FWD is giving the case internals just enough push to pop it back out o gear. But hey, ya better go buy an Atlas cuz it's cheaper:flipoff2:

If you drive with the rear driveshaft off put it in PART TIME not full time. Or is that what you had it in? Part Time locks the driveshafts together, that might correct your slipping grinding problem.
