Anybody know how to test a three phase transformer? She goes smokey and gets hot when the juice is runnin for a few minutes.

It's in an old 3hp lathe. (the new toy ):D

are you talking about a converter box? if you are it sounds bad without a doubt. make you a new converter from a 3ph motor, do a search on this on the net. you use two legs to power the motor and the other leg generates the 3rd leg you need for the lathe. you can pick up a scrap 3 to 5hp motor at the scrap yards for cheap.

I am running the lathe off of an inverter like the ones here:

It runs the bridgeport mill I have great and all three legs are pretty even in voltage. I just don't know if I have a motor problem or a transformer problem :confused:
