I have a Scout 80 with a sm465 and np205 and would like to build a crossmember to help support the heavy transfer case instead of the adapter holding all the weight. I just can't decide the best way to mount the tcase to the crossmember. Has anyone does this? If so do you have pics?

i believe there are two bolt holes in the side of the case that can be used, also check in the chevy section

Just be careful how ridgid you mount it. When the engine and the trans moves, the t-case has to be able to move with it or something is going to give.

Yes both of these ideas. Use the side bolt holes and mabe just a firm rubber block under the case to soak up hard hits?...For mine on the side bolt holes I have rubber bushings on this mount made from two shock eye loops.

Nope. Never been done before.

TMR makes one that mounts off the back of the 'case, or if your 205 has the tapped holes for the torque mount.

Mad Mac makes a mount off the PTO cover.

edit-the mount is a trans mount from an 80's blazer iirc.

As a note, the reason those adapters break is that they are supposed to have brace rods from the factory running from trans to t-case, or a factory t-case output to frame rail rubber mount. I don't know why idiots who worked on them in the past never put them back on but you rarely see them anymore. If a guy could just make new ones he'd probably be fine.

Thanks for all the responses, I think I'm going with the pro covet mount. I knew about the rod that runs up to the tranny, I've always heard they are a bitch to put on.

Here is what I did.
It's on the PS of a flipped Ford NP205.

A second mount on the np205 is on my short list as well .

Until I found this thread I was scratching my head trying to figure out a T-case mount.

Thanks to larboc@hotmail.com's design, I was able to modify it and create my own variation.:smokin:

PTO Mount:

Cross-member:

I don't remember which mount I used, but here's a picture of it:
http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/jj193/thetrucks/Project%20Terror/Transmission%20and%20Transfer%20Case/000_1612.jpg

Here's what it looked like in there:

Here's a picture that shows the other two cross-members installed:

Just wanted to say thanks by contributing to the thread that helped me figure it out!

There have been multiple threads in the Gen4x4 section about having 'too much' support. The guys breaking adapters seem to be the ones with multiple crossmembers and supports going to the frame. The big idea is to build a cradle of sorts that holds everthing together but only mounts to the frame in a few spots. Less chance for frame flex to leverage the adapters I guess.

I read it on pirate4x4 so it must be true :flipoff2:

That's why I put the t-case mount where I did and used a rubber mount instead of poly. Kind of supports the t-case in the same axis as the trans mount. I was trying to reduce the stress of the weight of the t-case and doubler hanging off the back of the ZF while letting it rotate where it wanted to.
Hope it works out! those 205's are a bit heavy.
