I did a search but couldnt find any info concerning my question.
I bought a 89 5.0 motor out of a T-Bird today and need to know if there are any diferences in hooking it up compared to the 5.0 out of the Mustang. The motor didnt come with a wiring harness or computer. I have a 90 Mustang 5.0 computer and Mass air meter that were from my old motor that got stolen. Can i use this computer and mass air meter on the T-bird motor? What wiring harness should i get? Should i find one off Ebay for a T-bird or can i get a Mustang harness? I heard theres a company that sells new harnesses for pretty cheap. I think its called FMS. Anyone heard of them? Any info would be helpful. thanks

The motor is just a motor..it does not care what electronics you hook up to it. The T-bird 5.0 should be great. I don't think it has odd EFI intakes, although it **may** place the throttle body et al. on the driver's side of the engine compartment. No big deal, tho.

If you want to get a brandy new EFI wiring harness...FMS (Ford Motorsport; now officially re-named FRPP-Ford Racing Performance Parts) is far and away the best deal. I have the installation manual for that harness posted here. (http://www.vintagebronco.com/newberry/pages/tech/efi/efi.html)

I would suggest Down's Ford as an online source for the harness, if you prefer to buy online. But there are others. Do a Google search.

Painless wiring also makes a 5.0 harness. If the T-Bird shares the same intake properties as the mustangs, the upper can be put on either way.. same goes for the GT-40's etc.. face the throttle body to either side of the compartment.. all lines up just fine, just swap the vacuum plugs and stuff to the other side.. and viola.

The motor is not just a motor:rolleyes: . There are many differences between H.O. motor and the non H.O. motor. Being that you have a good MAF computer and MAF I would definetly use those parts. You will need to change the cam for the correct firing order and there are other differences but the cam is the biggest issue.

I dont think the bird motor had roller rockers in all motors either... I think some bird motor did had the TB on either side also. As far as the stang harness, I have heard of people using either... The bird one puts the computer and stuff on the other side of the motor is all I have seen.

I thought all 5.0s after 79 had the 351 firing order? Ill have to check in a haynes manual. Ive already checked out the motor and the intake is on the passenger side just like the Mustangs. My friend got his stock EB flywheel rebalanced but instead of adding weight to the flywheel, they just took some away from the opposite end. They dont seem to have any problems doing it this way. But i was wondering if anyone sees a possible problem. Thanks again.
