I have a FJ-55 with a 3~4" lift right now. It fits 33's nicely. if i keep my lifted springs and go Spring Over, how big of tires can i fit? 37's?

You could run 44s sprung over with 3-4 inch lifted springs.

I would also suggest getting FJ-80 axles or D60s cause you will tip right over with that much lift :D

Taller ain't better. Spring over with stock springs or old 2 inch springs so you get more droop and forget about altitude.

2 cents spent.

Bigger than 37's, that's for sure. You might start to think about radical width tires here though, say around 37" wide or so, b/c on any standard width tire you're gonna go boom onto your side when you pull up to a curb...

;)

That's too much lift.

so how would you reccomend i fit 35" tires. i dont really have the clearance in the rear. i was thinking of doing a slider where i could cut some area away from right under the doors because i dont have enough room just foward of the tire for 35's. there was a writeup of this here: http://www.birfield.com/~morgan//ranch/index.html#cornerfab

BigFatIronPig, I grew up in San Anselmo. Where are you?

Depending on what is netting your lift (just springs, or also shackles, body lift) you will have plenty of room to clear 35s, probably 37s after a spring-over-axle conversion. Depends on what you mean by "fit". If you are just driving around on the road, you could clear 39.5" Swampers. :) If you have a well-done spring-over suspension that allows good articulation, you may well be limited by sheetmetal rubbing to 35" tires. I'm speaking of true 35" tires, btw. BFGoodrich 35" tires measure about 33", for instance.

What sort of springs do you have? I had +2" lift springs and +2" lift shackles when my 55 was SUA. Got them from JT Outfitters, but Man-A-Fre sells the same stuff. Used the springs but shorter shackles when I did the spring-over. Worked well, actually. I'm running 35x14.5 swampers now. Considering going a little bigger - 37" or 38" - in the spring.

Lotsa pics of my 55 before and after SOA on my site, http://www.birfield.com/~morgan

Due to a couple reasons, the rears are now sagging badly and I'm getting some custom Alcan springs made this winter to get the truck back to level, when loaded for the trail.

Send me some email at morgan@hahaha.org. I'm in Oakland, have a 55, know a bunch of local cruiser people. Some are 55 drivers too.

There's an fj55 mailing list. You might want to join it and ask there, too:
