Does anybody else's Atlas clank and clang when just getting moving on a cold morning?
It goes away after about 500 feet, probably once the oil gets thrown around and warmed up a bit, but it just sounds bad while it's happening.
I'm using Mobil 1 (I forget the grade, maybe 5W-50 or something, whatever they recommend in the guide) and I checked the level and its fine.
I'm guessing it's just cranky in the morning, but I just don't like hearing it. Any better luck with different oils?
Thanks.

Sounds like you have problems with something. Mines never made noise. Even if it was dry, It really should not make any noise unless somesthings loose.

Are you sure there isn't some water in it? It makes sense, if it freezes then the gears chew the ice up after a short distance, noise goes away.

Mobil One? here, I have the instructions right here....
If you are unable to find (gear lub Torco MTF>>Manual Transmistion Fluid), a high quality 75-90 wt. synthetic gear lub can be used.

in the lastest manual it states: "If you are unable to find this lubricant, one of the following synthetic oils can be substitute for the Torco brand: Castrol Syntec 5w-50, Valvoline 20w-50 or Mobil 1 Synthetic 15w-50. We have found these synthetic lubricants to work well in the Atlas."
I think maybe I'll just do a drain and fill with the Torco fluid and see if that takes care of it.

I think that if you check you will find that they are closer to the same than you think. Motor oil and gear oil use different rating systems for oil viscosity.

I notice when cold it can be a little hard to shift the Atlas, but no noise. After a mile or so it shifts much better.
