: HP60 Rear Full Float - Need Inner Seal?

Folks

I have been making my own rear full float HP 60 based on a Tera centre. I have done all the work myself so far (pushing in tubes, machining and welding etc), starting with the raw Tera centre.

My question is will I need the inner oil seals. On a low pinion full float there are no inner oil seals and oil just sloshes around inside the tubes and down to the wheel bearings. But with HP, becuase of the much higher fill hole, if there are no inner oil seals then the entire tubes and hubs will be completely filled with oil - sounds like a good cause for leaks.

So what gives. What have you other HP Full Float 60 guys done. What does a stock Tera 60 FF come with. Any help much appreciated as I want to get this thing finished off!

I generally use them. It doesn't hurt anything and you have less chances of leaks. Just don't forget to pack the wheel bearings.

It depends on how much you have it turned up as to how high the fill hole will be. The standard rotation 60's were designed to be ran fairly flat so the hole is where it needs to be but we tend to turn them up so I would bet that your Terra 60 might just be back to the same spot after turniong it up. I run an RC60 rear and don't have the seals in and have had no problems but I don't spend time on the road so take that into consideration.

my axle has no seals nor leaks. I do jump on the road once in a while and fill it with at least 3 quarts of oil, since my pinion points up almost at 60° Im afraid It can melt the bearing.

Why? You still have to put a seal on the hub for dirt and water.

It just eliminates gear lube in the tubes and bearings. No more leaking lube when you pull a shaft to pack the bearings.
WHY NOT?
