I have a 88 trooper with the 4 cyl and a auto that will run for a while then all at one shut off and not run. It will not start again sometimes for 1 to hrs. the truck has 190000 miles on it but runs like a top when it runs. Is this common? What is the cure?
Thanks

check the wiring at the alternator and even the alternator .. the conection goes bad there sometimes and you wont be able to crank it.
also try posting to Planetisuzoo.com ... there is a wealth of knowledge there... i only left there because i did a whole drive line swap (engine to axles)
good luck

My thoughts would be Ignition module, or Ignition coil.
Fighting a similar issue on my 4runner.

I have had this problem. The fuel pump relay has a feed that comes from the alternator. If the Alternator dies, so does your fuel feed. If it happens again, try tapping on the alternator. Sometimes the brushes are worn and stick. You can also blow it out with compressed air. I have had this problem on several troopers I've owned. I go off road a lot. I have also seen excessive brush wear on construction equipment too. Ck your charging system. If it continues just replace your brushes. They are about $5 at the parts store.
