The trip that my friend and I had planned went off as planned, sort of. His wife had to back out at the last minute to stay home to keep looking for their dog that ran off. Happy ending, and the dog was found.

On Tuesday the 28th, we left central Illinois at 8:17AM CST. From home to Evarts it was around 480 miles. With two gas stops, and one rest area stop, we made it in about 9 1/2 hours. Would have been quicker but we were stuck in traffic going around Indy due to an accident.

We checked into Black Mountain Cabin Rentals. It was decent but if you are wanting to impress the ladies, you might go to Holiday Inn Express in Harlan.

We were greeted nicely by the manager

I have to say that when we left home we didn't expect ther to be that much snow. The easy trails would normally be just that but, snow on top of ice turns that trail into a dangerous combination. Pictures do not do justice.

One thing we found and didn't really expect was the hospitality and friendlyness of the local residents. We had lunch in the cafe at Buddies Chevron. Nice folk.

This was a nice trip, and no carnage. I want to go back in warmer weather.
It was worth the trip.
