: Stock radius arm measurements
Lil'John 11-09-2002, 08:02 PM Can someone give me some measurements of stock Ford radius arms?
An overall length would be appreciated.... a comparison of two would work also(ie Ford EB radius arm is x inches shorter than a Fullsize Bronco)
Also, does anyone know of a place that sells radius arm axle brackets... the perches on the axle housing itself.
Thanks in advance,
John
Kurtastrophe 11-09-2002, 08:12 PM The EB and Fullsize radius arms are the same length.
Call Duff's for the axle perches.

Lil'John 11-09-2002, 09:01 PM In short, are all the radius arms ford used the same length?
How long are they?
Nobody 11-09-2002, 09:21 PM patients....patients......I was down in the garage measuring.
Yes, they are all the same length. There is a slight difference between the EB and full size arms......on the holes that the spring pad bolts to are spaced slightly different. Not a big deal.
In the picture, top arm is EB and bottom is FS. Overall lenght is 35.5"

Let's not forget about wristing them!

THANK YOU:)
And nice wristed arm:)
Lil'John 11-10-2002, 11:33 AM I forgot to ask, what is the size and thread pitch of the frame end of a radius arm?
Thanks in advance,
John
ksbronco 11-15-2002, 10:54 AM I was wondering if anyone has pics of the radius arm extentions out there. Does anyone know if longer is always better, I mean I have heard of 10" extentions and 12" over arms, is one of these the best or is 15 better, if so is 18 better??

Kurtastrophe 11-17-2002, 06:28 PM Ehhh, not really. Standard 3/4 thread. I verified this on my EB when I bought new locnuts. I'm not a big fan of castle nuts in that application :D
leehall 11-21-2002, 07:34 PM I have longer radius arms . They are about 8" or 9" inchs longer . I have a hp44 , 4.10, homemade brackets to except hiem joints (or an adjustible rod froma tractor) . It works realy well . It gave me about 15" to 16" of wheel travel . the stait axel is about 3" or 4" (of wheel travel) more over TTB .
leehall 11-21-2002, 07:44 PM pardon my stuipidety . why would you want to wrist a radius arms.

NOTPRETTY 11-21-2002, 09:17 PM Here are a couple pics of the extended arm. Yes, they do hang down. But, I haven't been hindered too much by them. There have been several debates on this forum over what's better....Please don't start it again. Been there done that. My opinion is to go wristed...the pics above show why. If you do go extended, I would by James Duff's arms. The are a better design and seem to hand down less. I have considered wristing my extended arms just for shits and giggles...

ksbronco 11-22-2002, 09:31 AM This may be dumb, but I don't understand the wristed arm, what holds the axle from twisting around. I would think when you push on the gas it would want to have tons of axle wrap. It looks like a four link missing two links. Maybe I don't understand how it works, are you adding something like another link? If do extended they will be custom by me, cheap that way. Would wristed work for a vehicle that is driven on the road also? I wasn't really thinking of the clearance issue when I asked about the legth, but I see how longer could mean getting hung up more, although you crossmember hangs down lower than the radius arm bracket doesn't it? I also thought of using the Heim joint in place of the stud, are you satisfied with the way that works?
Thanks
Didn't want to get an argument going, to tell the truth this is the first I have heard of wristed, I could find a few spare arms and try to make a set of each in my spare time and try them all. Can you use the heims ends on a wristed arm?
leehall 11-22-2002, 10:02 PM IAM NOT SURE ,BUT I HAVE SEEN THIS IN 4 WHEEL AND OFFROAD ON AN EARLY BRONC. IT IS FOR LETTING THE AXLE MOVE FREELY INSTED OF BEING CLAMPED DOWN AND LIMITED ON TWISTING . THE TWO ARMS WONT LET IT FLEX . I AGREE THOUGH . IT LOOKS LIKE IT WOULD NOT LAST VERY LONG . I WONDER IF YOU MIGHT COULD PUT AU JOINT THERE WITH LIMITERS . THE ROD ENDS WORK PRETY GOOD , BUT PROBABLY NOT AS GOOD AS THIS .
leehall 11-22-2002, 10:08 PM THE SHOCK MOUNTS TO THE BACK SIDE OFF THE RADIUS ARM . START PROJECT TOMORROW.(NOT A DAILY DRIVER)
