: This rig could be built into a nice trail rig
H8monday 11-09-2002, 10:30 PM Looks like it has a nice wheelbase, and good clearance.
Sure it would need a trick Suspension and more than likely most of the drivetrain swapped. But $10k later it would sure be a sweet looking trail rig.
http://tellico.off-road.com/wwwthreads_uploads/940730-PB071345.jpg
H8monday 11-09-2002, 10:33 PM I would hope they would make it available with a soft top/convertable also.
4runner 11-09-2002, 10:38 PM Reckon they feel like they are missing out on some sales?
I think the removeable/soft top would be a good seller...but the majority of buyers are going to be yuppies who probably couldn't figure out HOW to get the top off anyway....they would have a camper shell on it really fast.....or at least a tonneau.....and a roll(light) bar.....do those rims look like what used to come on camaros?
I sort like it, so how long after production starts before a 4 door comes out?

Uh huh, a lot of rigs would make "sweet looking" trail rigs, but why. Personall I think it pretty darn fugly. Looks a lot like a CJ-8, but worse with with the separate bed. Ground clearance looks pretty nice though.
H8monday 11-09-2002, 10:50 PM I dunno why I like it, but I do.
My F250 has been in the shop for almost 2weeks, so I have been driving my Jeep 70 -100 miles a day. Probably anything that has a heater, and less water on the inside than the outside, is looking good to me about know.

I feel your pain Jeff! I don't mine that many miles per day but I get to trade off the rain for snow  Those bikini tops just don't keep out the elements very well! :roxy:

I havent found a bikini top that fits me very well, so I havent worn one in a while, but I imagine it would be cold.:D
Po' riggity 11-09-2002, 11:25 PM I'm with you Jeff, I like it, and I think it would be a kick ass trail rig. Im curious to see if they actually make these things. And if they decide to go into production, whats the $$ gonna look like?

JS-Economos 11-09-2002, 11:30 PM I really really like this rig. Perfect blend of wheel base and overall size. Wonder what the price tag would look like considering it was done by AEV.

would be nice, but i think the underbody tire mount is retarted....
joshfj40 11-10-2002, 12:02 AM looks just like a rip off of the fj45 to me, except ugly
JParuBob 11-10-2002, 12:15 AM AEV custom makes vehicles...

they do some awesome work... however, jeep did have one similar to that at Camp Jeep this year... there is some talk of it making production...

MNBen 11-10-2002, 01:41 AM If Jeep would make one of those I'd buy one. It's a light duty pickup with all the + of a Jeep. Nice ground clearance, sporty looking, convertable hardtop on that model, and better storage than a wrangler or CJ. It, also, has solid axles, unlike half the newer stuff being produced.
It just looks fun.
Ben
Jayrockn7 11-10-2002, 02:27 AM I'd love to have it. That one was built off a new Rubicon! so you know the price is high, since these are totally custom I wonder how much one with 60's would cost:D I love CJ-6 & 8's, and I really like the idea of having a separate bed, that way it's removeable or easy to fix if you fawk it up;) At 114" wheelbase I think it would be one hell of a climber.

that might be why.;) wheelbase might be another...........
wngrog 11-10-2002, 06:38 AM I think it is cool as crap. Even if it is a Heep ;)
Similar to a FJ-45 Land Cruiser....
Lance 11-10-2002, 07:55 AM I like it... Also fyi the bed is fiberglass......
It gets my vote.
Looks alot like a Defender Pick Uphttp://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/attachment.php?s=&postid=1002554 http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/attachment.php?s=&postid=1002556
This bed is Aluminum. Well the whole body is.
The Rockslut 11-10-2002, 09:23 AM Yep, I would love to have one of those. I think it looks better than a CJ8 or CJ6.
44Runner 11-10-2002, 10:26 AM Originally posted by 4runner

They look like the same rims that are on the Rubicon edition. Snd if they put a 4:1 case and duall 44's (maybe even a 60 rear to one-up the rubicon ;) ) that would be one hell of a ride. I have to admit, I like the look. Probably because it really is an FJ-45 rip off and I love 45's...
I would definitely drive one of those. Seems odd how the rocker protection is mounted to the cab/bed like that. Seems separates would be better for frame flex.
Here is Jeep's slightly smaller version.
You could do this to it

I like it because it is a great concept. I think of all the hundreds of pictures that everyone has on their websites everyone took multiple photos of this truck. Obviously Jeep has struck a chord with the thing, hopefully it will go into production. Hell even I'd be interested in buying one and I think YJs and TJs are ugly.

Jeep didn't build this truck. AEV did. They start with a TJ and run with it.

Maybe Jeep didn't build it but it appears to be in Jeep's floor space so they either commissioned it or at least they endorse it.
nobody20 11-10-2002, 01:10 PM I like it but it is bling-bling. Like you say after you get it still needs a drivetrain swap.

its a jeep rubicon underneath so the drivetrain isnt all that bad.
Funny to see all the jeep people drool over a vehicle that is just about the same as a toy pickup (just add a 4.3 and factory electric lockers to an 83 toy)

Eskimo 11-10-2002, 02:13 PM Wow! Jeep commissioned AEV to build a rip off of the FJ-45! Way to go, D-C!
It is kinda cool.. kinda.
seRob 11-10-2002, 02:27 PM I like it. I'm real curious on what DC is gonna do with the TJ over the next few years. There are rumors of them going both ways. One is to make better equipped vehicles such as the rubi and the truck above. Another rumor I heard is a smaller liberty based vehicle is supposed to be released in 04. Then there's the Icon & Willys rumors still floatin around out there. Supposedly the TJ's days are numbered anyways since they wont meet 2006 air bag laws. I'm really hopin they do the smart thing & don't create just another cute-ute that will be clogging up junkyards in ten years.
Me, I'm still waiting for the Dakkar :(
wngrog 11-10-2002, 05:49 PM Here is a Factory coil sprung FJ-75...current year model. Toyota makes them for the non-pussy market (everyone but the US)

Jayrockn7 11-11-2002, 01:05 AM DC doesn't have the balls to build something like the BRUTE. The only reason they built the Rubicon was so the Jeep eng.'s could say thank you to the loyal fans. There isn't going to be anymore SWB "Wrangler" Jeeps after the Toledo Ohio factory contract runs out, the Icon is going to be the next "small" DC Jeep mainly because of the safety issues. I'm sure the concept Icon is going to look a lot different then the production one, may even get the Willy's name but that overall design is what we are getting. It's going to be another Kia Shortage/ Suzuki Sidekick wannabe with IFS & solid rear like the Liberty or probably IFS & IRS. The new DC eng.'s are really pushing the independent BS, look what their doing to the Dodge Ram's. Well Jeep was great for a long time, I'm going to miss them:( DC can go to hell:flipoff:
GRMhick 11-11-2002, 01:34 AM I dont see how DC can ignore how much people are paying attention to that truck. How many people have just said that if they build it, they woudl prob buy one? I am sure the general public woudl say the same. Look at all the SEMA cars, all the cool stuff, and that jeep stands out. DC woudl have to be extremely dumb ass mother f@%kers not to do anything with it. Hell, i woudl buy one too.. after the first wave, so i could afford used.. it is AWESOME.
BTW, anyone know if it is lifted more than the rubicon?

jeepguru7 11-11-2002, 07:03 AM The vehicle may be in Jeeps booth but that one is owned by the owner of AEV, BUT Jeep has shown great interest in the vehicle. Hell one of their engineers is building one too, with a 5.9! and at least a 60 in the rear. They know what we want it just talking the accountants into letting them build it. The BRUTE is not 114" but 117.5" and actually has a better departure angle than a Rubicon. You could get AEV to build one of these for you with 60's and whatever else you want but your wallet better be up to it. Wait til EJS 2003, they should have 3 of them down there, and at least one of them with 60's F&R and a 4.6L Stroker from Golen. They want to run the new 40" MT/R's if they're ready by then.
Hick, yeah it's lifted more than the Rubicon those are 37's.
RE 4.5 or 5.5 springs in the front and airbags in the back with a RE long arm kit.
Lowrangerider 11-11-2002, 07:05 AM The AEV prototype is much much better looking then DC's... personally I like the seperated bed look. I have been thinking of doing that to my Jeep so I could have some storage room.

The Scrambler Info is below the Dodge Stratus Turbo info.
Sundowner 11-11-2002, 09:08 AM I like it but I'd never own one becuase std. cab mini pick-ups are completely fawking useless for anything other than a dedicated work/trail rig. make me something decent to compare to my Tacoma extended cab TRD, and I'd consider it.
Brandon 11-11-2002, 12:09 PM I think it is cool, damn H8 - driving it daily - I am impressed!

I call bullshit, they don't look like 37's and they are on 16" rims they don't make 37's for 16"
I have been considering building a CJ8 for a daily driver. If Jeep decided to make this truck, they would have my business...
H
rEdNEcKwHeE1eR 11-11-2002, 03:48 PM I would scrap the bed for some tubing and throw on some 38-40s
the soon to be 40" Krawlers would be bitchin then some D60s Or mogs and a Klune-V for super slow crawlin.:D
If I had a 40 thousand fawkin dollers:flipoff2:
jeepguru7 11-12-2002, 08:23 AM Sorry for the wrong info. The tires are on 16" wheels and they are 315/75/16 MT/R's. One of the other one their building will have 37's, Probally Krawlers on 17's. Look for it at EJS 2003
Sully 11-12-2002, 08:40 AM I really like it. I think it's sweet, but Jeep will never build it. They may take the idea, and then pussy it out, (ala that DC-built lowrider version) and build it.
DC are too fawkin pussy to build anything with balls, no matter what the public reaction to the prototype is. Remember the Dodge Power Wagon concept truck about two years ago? That was one of the best lookin' rigs I've seen in a long time, and got more publicity than any of their acutal market offerings.
Did they build it? No. Did they take the then-current Ram and pussy it out? Yep.
DC can suck it.
Bgcj5 11-12-2002, 04:30 PM I really like it. I think the separte bed is a cool idea also. I would certainly buy it if it went into production.

TexasBlake 02-11-2003, 06:04 PM I've heard AEV makes that truck for you if you supply them the Jeep and $10,000.....
But it sure is sweet.
NotBaad 02-11-2003, 07:04 PM AEV is based in Missoula Montana. American Expedition Vehicles (http://www.aev-conversions.com) They are well built rigs, but only poser bitches drive them. I see them all over town and they are never dirty. And like others have mentioned...they do rape you a touch.
The Brute was built on a Rubicon...waste of a Rubicon if you ask me. :flipoff2:
LOKNLOD 02-11-2003, 07:28 PM I'd drive it...actually other than a Viper it'd be the only Dodge/Jeep/Chrysler product I'd like to have.
I'm not sure how good it'd looking in "stock" form, with 30" Goodyear street tires and no lift tho. Ugly.
Raptorman57 02-11-2003, 08:28 PM Here's a good one:laughing:
No seriously, last year I seen a couple Jeeps on the showroom floor that were 4 door Jeeps. In the back of the lot they had about 8 or 10 of them so that made me think they might have been built by Jeep. They had 4 full size Jeep doors and fore and aft the doors looked just like a regular old T.J. I thought they looked pretty good myself. I don't know much about the different models of Jeeps and special limited editions they have. They might have had these for a limited time or something, I don't really know maybe someone that knows Jeep better has a picture.

GEARSINMYHEAD 02-11-2003, 08:47 PM The Brute kicks ass and has a good drivetrain for trail use 44's lockers, 4:1 t case and MT's.
The DC Scrambler POS is crap. I don't like it at all.
The Willys Fire truck is gaudy.
The Aussie Toyota thing is sweet.
Weasel 02-11-2003, 08:47 PM Dang you guys need to get your facts straight.
First off AEV built the Brute and displays it in the Jeep booth. Don't knwo how the arangment works really.
The tires on the Brute are 35's. Suspension can be had with airbags front and rear to help with heavy loads.
The top is removable. Same as on a TJ. Also the bed conversion and stretch costs 10K plus the price of a rubicon.
As far As I'm concered their prices are fair.. Were else can you get that kind of detail and quality in aftermarket equipment, not to mention engineering. The guys arn't your backyard rec neck fabbers that make everything out of 1/2" plate.
And some people that buy these rigs do use them.
This was taken on the Morrison Jeep Trail in the Beartooth Mountains. Not extreme hardcore but it's getting used.
http://www.aev-conversions.com/Gallery/a018_8.jpg
and on the BenBow trail in the Absorkee Mountains in MT.

I'm pretty sure AEV built some like that. I seem to remember seeing a stretched four door jeep at a local car show. And being as I live just a few miles from AEV's shop... :flipoff2:

BAHAHAHAHAHA that is indeed :rainbow:
utahjeepr 02-12-2003, 08:09 AM I dig the Brute, it looks cool as hell. If I were looking for a DD and a mild to medium trail rig it would be perfect. For a full on trail rig though I would pick that new "Scrambler" (looks more like a TJ-6) over the Brute.
I would ditch that :rainbow: looking half cab, throw in a full cage that could use Bestop's TJ half cab soft top, beef the drivetrain, and throw some 40"MTR's on it. :D Of course that would be assuming that I had the $$$. As it is I think I'll stick with my 5 and the CJ-6 I've got in the back yard.
As a side note, I've been seeing this cool as hell Cruiser based pick-up in the area I'm working in. It is like the FJ-45 except it is a 4-door :D Must be a "non US" model or something. It is lifted with some 33's on it and it looks way cool. Unfortunately it doesn't look like it ever sees any off-road use. I feel sorry for it, you just know it must cry itself to sleep every night in the garage.
