I have been looking around for front axles for my 92 toy. My question if this. If i can find a truck with a straight axle already in it with a blown motor or body so rusted that i can get it for like 500-800 bucks is it worth it? I figure i can take the axle off of it and use that...that is about 200-300 bucks...then there is the t-case for a doubler. that saves a few pennies. i then figure i can rob the rear third member as a trail spare. the axle shafts prolly are no good to me since my axle is wider. so i am thinking i could sell the axle shafts, the tranny, and any good parts off the motor. Is there anything else on these trucks that will sell? or that i could use? i figure i can use some of the springs off the truck as well. maybe i could use the front spring hangers? or are these integrated into the frame on a straight axle toy? flame away...i am used to it :D

Nope... $800 is WAY too much to pay for a front axle and tcase...
I have picked up good, running vehicles for $300 more than one time. My latest deal will be for two trucks for $250. So do not pay that much for something you can get as parts much cheaper.

I got a $250 parts truck, an '85. It literally broke in half on me after I got it home!
Anyway, I needed the parts you did. I scrapped the rear axleshafts, they don't sell. DRM's been selling his for years as far as I know. We also damaged the housing and springs torching the ubolts off, so those went out.
The lights, lenses, glass, interior pieces, all those things will sell and/or you can use them. Those things get consumed on hard-use trucks pretty quick it seems.
You're in MI, so the bed on any old Toy will obviously be gone.
The AC system is worth something, if it's in good shape.
Steering pieces.

Remember you will also need to rebuild that $300 front axle as well. Look for a cheaper rig. I got two fronts axles for $100 at one time. Parts truck for $250. Just need to search back roads and start asking if they wanna sell that POS sitting in the back 40 :D

Sorry, I'll delete one :p
Turbos have better tranny's and cases, but they weren't solid axle either :flipoff2:

so i might be wasting my time looking for truck...maybe i should just continue looking for axles and t-cases seperately...turbo t-case were better because they had 23 spline? which would be what i want for the back of my doubler....what advantage would putting a turbo tranny into my truck give me? strength is the first obvious one i would assume, are the gear ratios better?

you can also get the turbo trannys geared lower too.....they are stronger also
