I'm almost ready to bring my cruiser to Grady's Extreme for a new roll cage, but I'm still undecided on how I want it to look. So please post pics of all types and all angles and you're thoughts on designs.

I don't want to build an overkill heavy ass cage, but I do want a stylish' lookin one! Here's a pic of kinda how I'm thinking.

I like it.
It's simple.
I like the ones that go right to the back and down with more of a right angle instead of the 45 degrees in this pic.

Yep, I like it as well, infact I think my cage will very simular to this one. I don't have anymore pics of this cruiser, infact the cruiser does'nt even really exist anymore. Well it was turned into a buggy that Bob Roggy built. Roggy did all the tube work on that one as well.

OK, so it's not a cruiser, but you said you're looking for a stylish cage.
I dig this one.

I run a fuel cell like that one like third form the top. I built a cover for it so I could mount a sammi seat over it. I like having four seats in a buggy. Just an idea

I do not believe there is a point where cage is considered "overbuilt". But one has to decide, how much protection does one want when rolling down a hill.

About 2 years ago, there were some pics of a dude that rolled a 1/4 of a mile down a mountain in Co. The body separeated from the frame. Tradgic event!!!

Overbuilt heavy ass is better than dead flat ass.

Check out mine:

I would question the strength of this design. I wouldn't want to test it on a hard roll.

From what I see there's just 2 sets of welds that would take care of a side impact.
The rear part also looks like it's designed for better collapsing.
I don't like it.

Some comments/opinions:

Tubing is strongest when you minimize bends. In the first cage, the main hoop bends inwards rather than straight into the fender. A definite weak point. Similar in the rear, where it's welded. A bend would be better here IMO into the fender, since the force thru those stringers would push out from the body.

The yellow jeep cage is pretty, but I wouldn't want to roll in that. Triangulation is terrible in that one.

The lime green cage is strongest by far, but too much for my taste. However, it has great triangution and the intersections are done right.

The blue cage is good for it's straight thru designs, but adequate on triangulation and poor on intersections.

In this part of the world, wheeling is as much leaning on obstacles as anything...and the spreaders above the drivers head need to allow for a smooth slide point for trees and such.

I'm likewise designing a new cage, and am agonizing thru the strength vs looks vs ease of access vs other issues. I've got most of my ideas finalized. From a tubing standpoint, I'm looking at useing 1-3/4" x .120 wall for the primary 6 point locations and 1-1/2" x .095 wall for the indirect mount locations. Should be a good combination between lightweight and rigidity.

Jeff Look at picks of Tracy jordans cruiser when he still had most of a tub and leaf springs. It is VERY similar to the one in the pics that Roggy built for Faber but i like tracys a little more, i almost made one like that on mine.
I don't have any pics, but the Part that i don't care for on those picks of Fabers old rig is the way that the rear hoop is tied to the frame, i think it could have been don a bit better(not that it is bad). I don't think that would hold up to many rolls with impact in the gas tank filler neck area, or hits to the top corner of the hoop.

Hey Jeff If Gredy want a fortune you know I gots a bender(not offering services to the public Jeff hooks me up and vice vertha), but i don't have time to build something for ya but if Gredy did the hard stuff and you wanted to finish it off ya know. Just trying to help.
