2011 Griffin King of the Hammers Official Starting Order Draw Announced

Greg Adler has a lot to celebrate in 2011, not only is his company 4 Wheel Parts observing 50 years in the 4 wheel drive parts and accessories business, the CEO and closed course off-road racer has also drawn the pole position for the 5th running of the Griffin Radiator King of the Hammers (KOH), slated for February 11, 2011. 4WP, the title sponsor for the Last Chance Qualifier (LCQ), played host to the KOH drawing party on January 4th at its Compton Headquarters, and Adler joked with Ultra4 Series Official Exhaust Dynomax driver, Bob Willis, about drawing the polar opposite, last starting position at 100.

The top 20 starting spots are stacked with the heavy hitters of Ultra4 Racing, with David Smiley, the winner of the Badlands qualifier, and Stan Haynes, 2nd at Badlands, in a rematch in the 19th and 20th spot. Kevin Sacalas, 2009 Ultra4 Vegas to Reno winner and reigning Ultra4 Grand Slam Champion, and “King” Loren Healy, SMORR Qualifier winner Lucas Murphy, RCQ winner Derek West will all be set up for a dual of event winners in the Top 20. Consistent Rocksports finisher Roger Lovell, Formula 4x4 Nation Champion Ragnar Robertsson from Iceland, 2009 Rock-crawling and Rock-racing Champion Brad Lovell, who missed the 2010 KOH win by 28 seconds, will be an exciting match up of teams that possess the ability to win KOH. Lastly, Australian Ultra4 racer Ben Napier, who is fresh off a third place finish in the Stampede, and Rocksports icon Tracy Jordan join Adler in the Top 20.
To mix up the field even further, the 4 fastest Last Chance Qualifiers will run in the top 20. No one knows who will grab these spots, but the LCQ field includes a two-time podium winner at KOH Casey Currie, experienced KOH racer Greg Hussey, XRRA’s Brian Shirley, Joey Archuleta and Rusty Bray round out an extremely fast field of LCQ participants.

The 2011 Griffin King of the Hammers will take place from Feb 6th-11th and will feature a full week of race action. The 4 Wheel Parts LCQ will split racing between two days on Tuesday, Feb 8th and Wednesday, Feb 9th. A giant interactive vendor show will be running the entire week, and will be the highlight of the Thursday, Feb 10th contingency. Ultra4 racecars will be on display for technical inspection the entire day. In addition, Thursday will emphasize the Pitbull UTV race on a 40-mile course. KOH features a full week of action, from seminars, to the Raceline Show and Shine, to the Blue Ribbon Coalition Most Prepared Rig contest, to enjoyment of the Johnson Valley trails. Meet the drivers, see the newest 4 wheel drive related products, and see some of the most exciting off-road racing on the planet from multiple safe spectator viewing areas.

Also gonna build a new rear bumper/tire carrier that gives us a little less departure angle, and strong enough to make sure it won't fold in case someone behind us wants to be in front of us :D

Asi es mi buen Zamorano, el Bongo y los Kalimochos estuvieron de pelicula...pero andamos bien madreados de la carrera, estuvo bien dificil pero gracias a dios y a todos los que nos apoyaron logramos terminar, ya vamos por Texas y mas tardar el miercoles por la tarde subimos el resumen y fotos.

Ahi llegaron unos pasianos de Zamora que radican en California para hecharnos porras, ya llevan 2 veces que van. Estan armando un vehiculo para correr en el Ultra 4 Series en el 2012.

“ WOW! Now we know why they call it the hammers! We felt like we were being hammered on from all sides for 12 hours, including internally. The whoops and train track desert bumps were just retarded and really hard on both the car and us. Fastest we went was 85mph (138kph) in the open flat lake section and we play it safe due to the high winds. The first lap was really sketchy in the desert sections due to all the dust in the morning. The Piñata buggie worked great on the rock sections and we went by fairly quickly unless if there was a traffic jam. The only problems we had were a blown valve stem from bumping into another stopped car, loose electrical connector, and bad gps visibility. We ran only four 37 inch stickies and no bead locks, and no communication radio. IRC helped us out with a tracking device just in case we broke down, we could be easily located. Still on the road, more to come later this week. Thanx everyone for their support.

Buscando la mejor linea es la mejor opcion ya que es una carrera larga, el reglamento dice que tienes 50 pies (15 metros) en cada lado de las pista para rebasar o sacarle la vuelta por si alguien esta atorado. Varios quebran porque no toman la linea buena o pierdan tiempo utilizando el winch muchas veces. Nosotros decidimos usar el winch en Backdoor en la segunda vuelta para evitar contratiempos.

Congrats on the finish guys. Its been 2 weeks and I think I am still hammered from the mescal. At least my head doesn't fit in that little sombrarro anymore.

You guys should come to Vegas and help us for the Silver State 300 in April. Just think of the Bongo party we could have there.

Team Bongo Mexico - Dave Gutwillig y Ponce llegando a backdoor en la segunda ronda, ya teniamos mas de 7 horas corriendo y todavia faltaban otras 50 millas para terminar la carrera. Habia un trafical y un calor del infierno pero logramos pasar rapido y seguir en la carrera.

Algunas estadísticas interesantes sobre el rey de este año de los martillos 2011

Los Teams 1-24 no avanzaron en su posición inicial.
Dean Bulloch fue el piloto que revaso a más gente con un total de (76) para llegar al puesto 20.
Hussey fue el segundo piloto en revasar pasando (68) pero aun no logro terminar en los primeros 20.
Shannon Campbell quien gano la carrera revaso a 61. Shannon arranco en el lugar 62 de los 100.
Ponce / Gutwillig TEAM MEXICO # 4472 fueron el único equipo para iniciar y finalizar en la misma posición. Team Mexico logro terminar con solo 4 llantas buenas de competencia de 37", sin pre correr (no pre running), sin rhines de competencia beadlocks, y sin radios para comunicarse con su pit crew, y sin gps! No habaido nigun equipo que ha logrado esto en la historia del King of the Hammers.


Lugar de arranque vs donde terminaron por groupos (DNF = No terminaron)
Del 1-10 * 4 DNF, 6 terminaron entre los primeros 20, 4 terminaron entre los primeros 10
11-20 * 8 DNF, Nadien termino en los primeros 20
21-30 * 6 DNF, 2 terminaron entre los primeros 20
31-40 * 3 DNF, 4 terminaron entre los primeros 20, 3 en los primeros 10 (Entre este groupo arranco Team Mexico en el lugar 37)
41-50 * 4 DNF, 3 terminaron en los primeros 20, 2 en los primeros 10
51-60 * 5 DNF, 2 terminaron en los primeros 20
61-70 * 3 DNF, 2 terminaron en los primeros 20, (Aqui arranco el Shannon Campbell quien gano la carrera)
71-80 * 6 DNF
81-90 * 6 DNF
91-100 * 8 DNF, 1 termino en los primeros 20

El mayor grupo de abandonos fue entre las posiciones 12-23, sólo uno terminó de ese grupo y la pérdio 24 posiciones.
De los que arrancaron en las posiciones 64 al 95 nadien logro terminar en los primeros 20.
Mejor resultado por fila fueron #18 Ferravanti (6) y Scherer (3), segundo mejor fue la fila #1 Adler (5) y Jordan (8).
En la fila 14 los dos pilotos no terminaron, en la fila 11 los dos pilotos terminaron.
Las filas 34 y 35 fueron las filas donde todos terminaron (Adams, Haines, Currie, Carter), pero ninguno de ellos terminó en el Top 20.
Casie Currie fue el que perdio los mas lugares se fue del 2 al 47. Por 1:39 minuto casi no logra llegar a la meta antes del corte del tiempo maximo que eran de 14 horas.
Brad Lovell no logro terminar y arranco en el lugar 7

Los 20 finalistas de 2011 KOH calificaron a través de:
Dos por ser ex ganadores (Jason Scherer 2009 y Loren Healy 2010).
Otras 7 por ser los Top 20 del KOH 2010.

Teams Internacionales
Team Mexico fue invitado esta vez como un team internacional junto con Fabio Manno de Italia, Ben Napier de Australia, Ragnar Robertsson de Icelandia, y Curtis Warner de Canada, y otros 2 teams de Alemania y Irelandia que no pasaron el primer escrutinio. KOH tiene 2 escrutineos. Team Mexico y Australia fueron los unicos en terminar en las 14 horas permitidas. Italia termino pero despues de las 14 horas.

2 entradas de los patrocinadors 4 Wheel Parts y Dynomax
5 de la Stampede 2010
1 de la Grand Slam 2010

April 6, 2011 – JOHNSON VALLEY, CA: The first official trailer has been released for the 2011 King of The Hammers movie. "Valley of the Kings" is the title for this much anticipated 4th installment of the King of the Hammers DVDs. The film is being produced by Hammerking Productions and created by Heavy Metal Concepts. Fans of the movies will notice that “Valley of the Kings” has more of a cinematic feel as this movie is being created by up-and-coming filmmaker/videographer Will Gentile of Heavy Metal Concepts. Will has created several full length videos in the past including the 2009 and 2010 Rausch Creek Qualifying videos, "Road to the Throne" and "Quest for Glory."

"Valley of the Kings" chronicles the 2011 King of the Hammers race which is often referred to as the hardest one day race in the world. The 2010 King of the Hammers video won a 2010 Extremey award for being the best Offroad/Truck video of 2010. This trailer is the first of several trailers that will be released in anticipation of the film's release and red carpet premier this summer. Hammerking will be making announcements about the red carpet premier events in the next couple of months and the DVD will be available for sale on the Ultra4 Racing web site. This trailer is the first of several trailers to be released over the coming months in anticipation of this exciting new King of the Hammers movie.

Ahi les va una foto que encontre en el internet, Team Bongo Mexico corriendo sin GPS, hibamos siguiendo el helicoptero que nos guio aqui ya que casi no habia mucha visibilidad, y el GPS que montamos no se veia nada ya que estaba muy chico:( Pero aun asi logramos arrancar y terminar en el 37 lugar. Bongo!
