ok, i have the chance to buy a f-250 non-dually, it's a late 80's or early 90's. it has a manual trans and is two wheel drive. it's gas and is an 8 lug. that's about all i know, and i was wondering what trans and rearend would be under it. i was thinking 10.25 and np 465 od t-18? did ford make a 5spd. in these trucks? i have seen it in passing, but have not looked very closely at it. please set me straight.
thanks

No F250s were duallies, if it is a four speed, it is probably an np535, if its a five speed, then its a ZF, rear axle will be a 10.25 sterling.

Since Ford was fond of using the T18 as late as '87 in Broncos and you're more likely to find an NP435 in the '78/9 Broncos, I'm gonna guess it's more likely to be a T18.

Never heard of the NP535 of which Lilly speaks.

i meant to say np435, damn fat fingers:flipoff2:

on a side note, wasnt the t19 more prevalent than the 18 in the later ford years?

Trannies can be a T-19c, TOD 5spd, ZF 5spd, Mazda 5spd

Yes a 250 can be a dualie. Not sure if was converted before he got it. It was an 89ish w/460 and Banks turbo or super charged, crew cab. It was covered with strips so it might have been a Centerion(sp?) He used it to pull his horse trailer.

Engine can be 302, 351w, 460.

84 D60, 85+10.25 these are about when they changed, however ford liked to mess around with change over years.

Where's Alpo23 when you need him. He can answer this. By the way...what does 'Alpo23' mean anyway?

Not factory but as far as that goes somebody could take a 1/2 ton and put a dually axle in it making a 150 dually but that don't make it right..

what are the T-19c, TOD 5spd, ZF 5spd, Mazda 5spd like? are they worth keeping? i would like to use this drivetrain in a cab truck, but am unsure about t-case combos with those trans since i don't know anything about them... did they all come in 4wd versions so i could go grab a tcase and adapter out of a junkyard, or should i run a divorced 205:D where can i find some info on these trannies?
thanks

If its a 4 speed, gas motor. It probably a T-18. If its a 4 speed with a syncro on first, its a T-19. Both great trannys

If its a straight six or a 302 with a five speed, its a POS mazda tranny. Total POS

If its a 351 or 460 with a 5 speed, its a ZF tranny. Best 5 speed for ever used.

All of them come in 2wd and 4wd versions.

If it's an F250 LD, it'll have a 300, 302 or 351W backed by a 435, T18 or M5OD, and, it will have a semi floating rear end. If it's a F250HD(8ver 8500# GVWR) it will have a 300, 351, or 460, backed by a 435 or T18(behind a 300 or 351,) a T19 behind the 460(only came behind the 460 and diesel,) or a ZF 5 speed and a full floater in the rear.
There are far too many possibilites here, go back and take another look at it, get us a year, engine and GVWR.

As for the rear axle, if it's an 85 or newer, it's probably a 10.25, although I have seen D70's in diesel powered trucks(Ok, I own an 86 with a D70... LOL)
