has anyone tried to convert dana r44 out of a f250 using the stock flattops to f150 spindles out. trying to complete axle and the calipers hit the knuckles when trying to bolt up.
thanks for any info.

This is what I was going to do. I got rid of my chevy knuckles when I picked up a 250 HP44. Might be like when you convert a CJ to disc. When I did that I just had to grind alittle out of the way. But on the Ford I'm not sure.

First of all what the hell are you talking about R44 do you mean reverse rotation. What the hell are flattops do you mean a kingpin system well I can tell you this much based on your part of no detail you can swap spindels, rotors, and calipers with any balljointed D44 HP or not balljionted 44 with drums like on EBs need the whole nuckle changed. I have done both with no problems gave my EB disc by changing the nuckels with D44 that have a disc brake system. and yes I have change F150 stuff with F250 stuff both worked fine. Now this was done with all FORD diffs and parts chevy is a subject I am not so sure of think you have to get the stub shaft, spindels, rotors, and calpiers dont know never messed with next time give us more info also dont be afraid to use theC:\WINDOWS\DESKTOP\ONLINE~1\TOP_SE~1.GIF

This issue is being discussed in the Jeep forum, with more explanation there.

TuffTruck, if you don't know what he's talking about or what flat-top knuckles are or are for then you have no business replying to this thread, if you have nothing to add, don't add nothing.

to convert from a 8 lug to the 5 lug 5.5 you will need to change the knuckle also because the 5 lug knuckle has a notch that is rather large cast in it for clearance the caliper to clear if you need the flat top design look for a 1/2 4x4 super cab 78-79 it will have the flat top knuckle with notch for caliper

and info for tuff truck the flat top is reference to the top of the knuckle where the steering arm on 3/4 4x4 fords and all solid axle fronts on dodge and chevys bolt to it hmm better make it a little clearer this applies to the open knuckle design:)

you could find dodge knuckles. a friend i work with has a 91ramcharger. it has flat top knukles and a 5on5.5 lug patern. iam not afan of using x brand parts , but if it works well who cares.
