: Wiring choice- to loom or not to loom...

Ok, I have FToy 522, and when building it, once I started on the wiring I found myself starting to loom parts only to un-loom it to fix problems. I decided that until I had it shook down and after I went on a couple runs I would go back and loom it all and make it look "nice and neat". Now here's my dilemma.

I could A.) loom it all and make it nice and neat, only to have to unloom it on the trail if wiring problems exist or water gets in the loom and shorts something out. or.. B.) leave it all exposed, and just zip-tie every foot or so and make trail repairs quick, mud/water easily escapable, and generally save alot of money on loom and electrical tape.

Any thoughts? I want it to look nice, but also be practical.

I think if I ever redo mine, I'll use the velcro wire ties like they use for phone/data cabling. Looks neat, but easy to unwrap for repairs.

I choose to NOT put my wiring in looms unless there is a problem with the wires rubbing or a heat issue from the exhaust. Just put wire ties every 6" and it will look fine. You can expect to use a couple hundered wire ties because you end up cutting them off to run all the wires you forget and to get the wire bundle to route in a clean fashon.
Here's mine before it was finished.

Yeah, that's ALOT more wiring than I have. If I didn't loom, I was going to go with the ties every so often like you describe, just to keep it all bundled nicely.

For you at this point just zip tie it every 6". Make sure the wires are fasted down good. Then hit the trail. The best way is to buy shielded wire. You can get in 14 gauge 2 wire 4 wire or 7 wire. If you have a place that rubs it's no big deal. It will have to go through the rubber then the wire shielding. When I get done with Hobie's all post some pics
